Lift and Tyre Size...

Does anyone know the general rules or laws for registration that apply to the amount that a vehicle can be lifted legally and how far the tyres may protrude past the guards/flared guards...?
I am assuming that there will be slight variations in different states but a general consensus would be great!

different in every state, but in general, tyres cant protrude past the flares at all, there new laws with lifts commin in, dunno when, but its about 150mm max lift inc B/L and Tyres, and tyres cannot be more than 15mm(?) more than standard. Anything over 2" (40mm?) must have a engineers certificate

Checked out the NT Rego site but the answers i was looking for were't very clear... I guess that means there are ways around the rules eh?

NT Rego legislation states:
"Where the tyre or rim protrudes outside the normal mudguard line, flexible plastic, fibreglass or rubber flares must be fitted."
Does this mean that your tyres may protrude past the flares as long as you have them fitted?

4-Wheel Drive Off Road Passenger Vehicles
Replacement alloy or steel wheels and alterations to manufacturer's tyre, wheel rim and wheel track specifications are approved for 4-wheel drive off road passenger vehicles (eg. Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Holden Rodeo, Ford, Daihatsu, Suzuki, Land and Range Rover) subject to the following conditions.

Diameter: The overall diameter of the tyre and rim assembly must not exceed the specification of the manufacturer by more than 15mm.
Width: The wheel rim width must not exceed by more than 51mm, the manufacturer's standard minimum width wheel rim for the particular vehicle series.
Where the manufacturer offers an optional wheel, the maximum allowable width will be regarded as the width of that rim or the width of the standard wheel plus 51mm, whichever is the greatest.
Track: The wheel track may be increased by up to 51mm over the manufacturer's standard minimum track measurement for the particular vehicle series. Where the manufacturer offers the option of a wider track measurement (e.g. where wider wheels are optional), the maximum allowable track will be the maximum wheel track offered by the manufacturer or the track of the standard vehicle plus 51mm, whichever is the greatest.
Does anyone know the maximum diameter/width/track of an 80 series cruiser from when they were manufactured?
The bigger the better is what i want to hear...

If anyone can make any sense of this please let me know..!!

That means u need to cover the whole tyre WITH additional "flexible plastic, fibreglass or rubber flares", if the stock ones dont.

As for the other stuff, its clear as mud, just go to a mech and ask if they would pass it. Alot of BS IMO, cant rego ur vehicle cause your tyres a 3mm to high... go do doughnuts till you wear em down 3mm :roll:

Same rules here as QLD then. max diameter is 15 mm larger. Effectrively you cant legally run any larger than factory fitting.


Speak to an engineer to find out what can be legal if you do it right
