changing 40 transfers do i need to change shifter?

guys changing ym early model 40 series 1 piece transfer into the split one do i need to change the shifter? and are they much stronger,

Yes u will need the correct transfer lever as they r different. As for strenght the case is the real weakness in the early one but yes the later ones are beefier inside as well.

They are different but only if you want to change into low range. You can still change in to hi range without any dramas. I toyed with the idea of using two levers, one for hi and one for low. Some minor fab work and your laughing.

You can remove the metal plate bolted to the gearbox, and with that mod, you can drive on 4x2 and 4x4 in both HI and LO range!

If you are just changing the tranfer - not the gearbox as well, the shifter may need to be changed; bolting in a full 60 series box - no modification required to the 60 series shifters.

The 60's are much more comfortable with their rubber insulations and firmer shift action
