Hi There
Has anyone else had any probelms with there ECU as my fried this week. One day the Paj was running fine the next day it wouldn't start. I had the computer checked and it's seams the insides are fried. Apparently it can't be fixed.
Anyway my mechanic can get me a so called rebuilt one for $450, is this a good deal? I rang one place and they told me that there were 5 diffrent computers for the NH 3.0 V6 Paj and that they vary from $300 to $800 second hand.
Cheers!

Happy anniversary! It looks like you joined us one year ago today.
The only ECU problems I've heard of were capacitors failing - not impossible to fix.
Who told you the computer can't be fixed?
This is the first I've heard of "five different ecus" - but I'm no expert. I've previously heard that Pajero ECUs were also used on other Mitsubishi vehicles, implying that they weren't hard to find.
I'm not sure what else you can do. Have you tried contacting Mitsubishi for assistance?
Good luck,
Scott

The ECU failing in any mitsubishi around this era is a pretty common thing. Most of the time it is the voltage regulator within the ECU that plays up... The ECU sends a 5 volt reference to all the sensors (Air flow meter, coolant temp sender etc) and then the sensors send back a voltage to the ECU depending on what is happening with the engine. When the voltage reg in the ECU fails it will not send out any voltage or will send out full battery voltage... therefore not getting back a correct voltage. I have alson seen the idle circuit of a Paj ECU fry from a faulty IAC motor grounding itself!
$450.00 sound's like a pretty good price. The last Paj we replaced the ECU in cost the customer about $850.00 and that was looking after him!!
If you remove the old ECU and quote the numbers on the casing to a wrecker they should be able to match it up for you. Most second hand ones are going for about the $500.00 mark tho. If your looking for the ECU it sits behing the left hand kick panel!!
Hope this helps...

yeah i had an ecu fry because of an IAC $1500 later i was back on the road. mine died while going up hill at 80 kph great fun. have an auto sparky look at the IAC as well, and genraly do a check on all the sensers.
the reason they fail i was told was that there is sulphuric acid in one of the components and thats eats it way out and kills the ecu at about 10-12 years old

Thanks for all your help guys. I ended up buying the $450 ECU from petro-ject here in Hobart as i needed the Paj going again for the weekend. The unit looked new but it must be a old one fixed up at that price. So the Big Paj is running sweet again. Could you please tell me what a IAC is so i can have it checked. Thanks again for your help it's all useful info.
Cheers.

An IAC is an Idle Air Control unit. It sits at the rear of your throttle body and has a black multi-pin plug facing out at the drivers side. It's an electric motor controlled valve that allows air past the throttle butterfly. This in turn adjusts the idle speed.

Thanks Greggo. If the IAC motor was faulty would this cause the engine to stall when coming to a stop? This has been happing lately especially with the A/C on.
Cheers!

Does the engine still stall on you now you have a new ECU? I would get it looked at just incase the IAC motor isn't shorting to earth. This could cause the meltdown of your new ECU ( and possibly the failure of the last one )if this is the case!
Worth getting checked out anyway...

It doesn't seem to stall anymore but i think i will get the IAC checked out anyway. Just to be on the safe side
