Re: Tail shaft
The small end should be at the gearbox end, also helps to keep crap out of slip joint.fnqcairns wrote:Which way around should my tailshaft be! What is the Pro's and Con's, thanks.

John thats what a mechanic said but didn't elaborate, when checking the car over for rego. He only said it was the wrong way around.
I will add a tailshaft flip onto my to-do list.
Got to wonder why the manufacturers fit with the slip to the rear on 4x4s? at least I think mine is per original.

yeah comes from factory, but on 4" you need to do it to clear the xmember. Easy job anyway.fnqcairns wrote:John thats what a mechanic said but didn't elaborate, when checking the car over for rego. He only said it was the wrong way around.

HAVE A ROCK GASH ON THE SLIP JOINT CAN'T BE GOOD FOR TAILSHAFT,WHERE AS HAVING SOME ROCK GASHES ON THE BODY OF THE SHAFT WONT HURT A THING.Wendle wrote:they usually deal with getting dragged over rocks better with the slip joint at the pinion end..

yeah it doesn't weaken them at all
the slip yolk has a protector that is solid, and isn't a load bearing part of the shaft. i'd take a ding in that over anywhere else on the shaft. plus you got the added advantage of that little bit of extra clearance,
