possibly put gear stick in crooked, that can happen?
It can lock between gears when selectors get bumped when inserting stick.
May be worth a look into.

Take gear stick out and look down selector hole, see whick selector rod is forward or backward(might be two engaged, indicating faulty interlock). If not remove reverse switch and see if reverse selector is jammed in engaged position. Have had hilux box's that were "rebuilt" jamed in reverse. Had to remove reverse switch and manually push reverse fork out of engagement.
Good luck

When I had my gearbox serviced I had a similar problem, and the mechanic said to lossen the bolt on the left hand side of the gearbox where the gear stick goes a few turns .Because they over tightened it when they put it back together.
I did that and had all five gears back.
Hope this helps.
