Hey fellers.
A friend fo mine has a 3Y in a 4runner and he is happy with the off-road performance, but he wants a better towing comacity and more noise from the loud pedal. Does he:
A - rebuild the 3Y and turbo it?
B - slot a turboed 4Y in there.
C- or do you have a better idea?

I usually find you can do one of two things to get more POWER from the 3Y.
1. Pour some chicken pellets in the oil filler, The hampster's love chicken pellets!
or if you want real boost!
2. Replace the Hampsters with Squirels. Squirel's have slightly longer legs and have a more consistant power range!
Hope that makes it a little easier with his choices!

There realy is very little you can do to a 3y to gain power. The money you would spend would be better spent on an engine swap.

A 4y is no more a powerhouse than the 3y. They are both gutless.

a bigger motor or a turbo isnt going to allow you to tow more.

exactly, towin capacity is based on more the size of the vehicle than the power
it is still a 4 runner with 1500kg towing capacity even though it has 150kw compared to 60
if he wants to tow then he needs to look at moving to a cruiser or patrol something like that

Something cheap and noticable for you! Throw a Webber on it. You will notice the difference and it will make it sound a little bit throatier
But there right not alot to do to the poor lil motors.

a webber will make quite a difference, just been through it on my 4y. However they do not run well at all on angles and turned my rig into a pretty dangerous vehicle (on reealy steep angles), too unpredictable when you'd lose power, i worked out a couple of ways to fix the problem.....to an extent. I'm now going efi with a supercharger, should be no probs then.
if he doesnt go hardcore offroad a webber would be alright, i have 2 conversion kits in the garage if interested.

keep in mind a webber is designed as an on off carby.. they do not like to be fiddled with and can completely understand your truck dying on incline with thier design.. webber would be a bad option IMHO.

Im backing he doesnt mean tow capacity as in the weight it can pull but as in pulling better while towing. For instance towing up a hill would suck with a 3y. Do a convserion or put up with it. Dont bother farking with the 3Y. They are shit. I threw mine away and the ute hasnt been running since.
but one day I'll be able to drive faster than a toddler with training wheels and it will all be worth it.
