I've taken delivery (read: bought) this truck, at a great price. Naturally. Naturally, it comes with problem.... Like fuel pump leaked like a sieve, 5th gear is a no show and the rear window doesn't do a thing. Doesn't stay up, doesn't stay down, desn't lock etc etc. My questions are this,
A) where do I get a decent resource in regards to fixing this thing,
b) whats a new winder motor worth?
c) does everyone end up suffering this problem over time??
d) are window and 5th gear RWC issues?? or only with a bas%#rd mechanic?
cheers.

I have heard that the window winder motor in the 4runner rear door is the same as an 80series elecy window winder..
Might be easier to find one

Just pull the motor out and test the motor on a battery because often with electric windows its actually the master control switch that can be stuffed and stopping it from working. And like Cranky said the motors are common to alot of different models if you took it to a wreckers and had a look you should be able to find one thats the same. You should be able to get a motor for around $100 second hand.

i just fecked around for two days with my 85 4 runner rear window.... if you earth one of the wires to the motor and put 12v on the other it should spin one way...( reverse the wires and it spins the other)
then check the circuit breaker ( drivers side kick panel) there is a switch to show that the tailgate is up, a switch to show that the rear wiper is not down and a switch to show that the canopy is on...(hidden under one of the bolts on the pass side that holds the canopy down ( on mine it is next to the roll bar..
and den... my prob was the power window control box (relays and such) hidden behind the inside skin next to the rear passenger seat.... i changed a busted transistor and sweeet....
if ya knew any of this i am sorry... but i hope it helps....
