hey people
ive got my uhf know an icom 400 pro but it says to use the scan function i need to hook up a wire to the microphone hanger could some body inform me how to do this? thanks

Its all in the programming. Talk to mousie or family bus . they may be able to help. Maybe all you need is a magnetic microphone holder.

Because of the Icom IC-400PRO's heritage, based on a commercial radio, you need to connect the microphone clip to negative/ground so the radio can tell if you have "finished" using the radio.
The scan function will only work if the microphone is hung up in the clip. The radio can also be programmed to do other things based on the microphones "hang up" signal, such as go into quiet mode when you hang up the microphone, but this is only of use if you want to use selcall.
A dealer can also open up the radio and disable the microphone hang up detect circuit, I've done a couple, it's not a tricky job.
I have two Icom radios (including an IC-400PRO) that use the earthed microphone clip function. I found it easier to connect each clip to negative with a short bit of wire.

thanks michael, so do i just connect it to the earth wire on the radio?, also is there a way to turn down the beep when changing channels etc?

The IC400PRO "beep" can be turned down using the small potentiometer behind the mic socket.

The "scan-on-hook" function can be disabled also with the appropriate software, so you don't need to earth the hook ... it's optional.

But otherwise, just straight to chassis negative - same as you would any other black wire - no need to hook it up to the "earth" on the IC-400PRO ...

umm ... it's pretty much a screw which you turn with a small screwdriver - like a volume knob - clockwise makes it louder, anti-clockwise makes it softer.

You need a very small screwdriver to do this, and if at all possible use a non-metallic tool. If you short out the wrong thing, you could be in trouble. A small jewellers-type screwdriver should be OK as long as you aim it right!!
