Friend has a 2002 V6 with some very odd overheating probs.

Only had it for a couple of weeks and it's back to the dealer.
Vehicle is stock.

It's litterally had the works re-cooling looked over and replaced. Even sat side by side with another to compare revs, running, temp etc and confirmed there is a gremlin here that cannot be found.

All work and replacement done by Mitsu dealer, even they are stumped...
Hoses replaced and good.
Pump replaced and good.
Plumbing flushed and good.
Radiator replaced and good.
Engine management/setup good.

So when I heard I thought I'd put it out there and see if anyone has any thought on it...

I know it's elementary, but you haven't mentioned the thermostat.

Fan coupling OK?

Have they stuck an independent temp sensor in somewhere, or are they going off dash gauge? If it's dash gauge, is it the correct sender?

Under what conditions does it overheat? Idle, cruise, under load, all the time?

Tested for combustion gases in the coolant?

In my experience, Mitsubishi cooling systems are very well engineered. If the vehicle is overheating (under anything less than extreme conditions) there is definitely something wrong. But I guess you know that.

Good luck,

Scott

Well the dealer has organised a loan Triton and they have taken it away.

I am not fully aware of all the details, I am surprised it has gone this far.

At least my friend is not paying for. I can't wait to find out what the end result is...
