Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Guys looking at getting a new set of boots for the truck, either

Cooper St
BFG mud
Goodyear MTR

in a 33 x 12.5

Anyone bought recently?? What sort of price am I looking at? I am located in eastern Melbourne so any suggestions on shops would be appreciated.

But I reckon those tyres you've listed aren't exactly interchangeable. What do you want to do with them?

For someone who loves mud, the BFG Muds are probably the best bet, but they don't have such a good reputation on-road. MT/Rs are a good all-round tyre, but probably not quite as good as the BFG in sloppy stuff. Cooper S/Ts are a good tyre too (I had no complaints with mine) but they're generally regarded as an aggressive A/T rather than a true M/T. I would expect them to be the cheapest of your list.

The other is gold tooth Mick at Tyrepower in Blackburn... he beat everyone else on 33 BFGs by a long way.

My guess is somewhere from $250 to $300+

In the size I'm running list prices would be about $290 to $340 - before any discounts, if you can find them.

what about silverstones?
i got mine for $200 a piece and they work really well in the mud.

Widetread tyres in Ferntree Gully has the best prices in town for BFGs and most others.

Recently bought BFG muds 315/70/16 for $300ea, 3 other companys quoted $340 plus.

the new kumho mud KL 17 is a good tyre and work very well on and off road i have had baja's, goodyear mtrs and found the mtr's not good in mud and they cho up quick too.....

Manager at work got Sumitomo Serengeti MT 33" x 12.5 for $215 fitted at canterbury tyre and auto in vermont... they got a good wrap in A4WDM write up a few months ago.

iv just put a set of NANKANG MUD STARS in 33"x12.5 on my patrol... cost me $200 each balanced and fitted from tyre power frankston. took them a day to get them for me.

drove them on the weekend at bunyip during that rain. both mates got stuck, and i didnt.

mate lost fowards traction on a hill climb. i drove up beside him, stopped, hooked snatch onto cars, and then snatched him up the rest.

only been bogged once wih them, that was in a drainage dam (also after alot of rain) stuk in about half a meter of mud.

only downside with the the kangers is that they are incredibly noisy, and don't have much in the way of side biters.. but not bad for a cheap new mud tyre

Try Maxxis i run em on my 4 runner and they work great around $230. otherwise BFG's
