very strange then... the new draft thingy ups the welding standard a lot but thats not in yet... somthing must look not right for him to ask for an xray of it.... some pics of the problem might shed some light
whats next destructive testing of it before he will pass it ? he may as well ask for a pressure ticket
could your mate document any welding qualifications though ?
your not trying to get it engineered as a product to sell are you ?
off the top of my head it probally has to comply with AS1554GP
the new legislation will make it tougher as uses AS1554SP

According to the info on the Dotars site it was adopted by the States via teleconference in Jan.

You can't do that anymore, if you go to an engineer and he knocks you back on something and you don't go back with the problem fixed they are required by law to give the RTA your details.

Ask if ultra sonic test will do.
lot cheaper and quicker.
Nata approved tester and all should be fine.
they will issue a full report on the testing.
We dont do any Xray to slow to expensive all Ultra sonic.
Michael.

I rang a different engineer today and he said that he would only have to visually look at the arm design and what the welding is like and that will be ok,i asked him about the new legislation and he said it is only a guide and all things will not be adopted.
also i was told that you can't have a six point cage unless it's bolted in so that he can put down that it is removable on the report .......
and no tyre size allowed 15mm above standard
every one seems to have conflicting information...
All the arms were welded by mig. i will post some pictures of the A frame.

Well some of the stuff he's told you there Modified Toy is completely different to the new Dotars standards.
In a case like that I'd be asking for an engineer and if NSW RTA had a problem with you doing that I'd tell them eaxtly why you did shop around - because the supposedly qualified one you went to hadnt got a clue on the new regulations.

The engineer is just protecting himself from possible (however remote) legal action if something fails. He might have been sued before......
Some engineers are less risk averse than others......

this indicates 1 of 3 things:
1) They do not have the expertise,
2) They do not have the PI Insurance, or
3) They dont have the time to assess the risk.

I know a few people that go to see Athol and find him pretty reasonable to get things done. I'm hoping so, cause thats where I got to take mine..
