Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys, Anything you can tell me about 94 Pajero SWB. Just looking at buying one. At the moment I have 88 Feroza Narrow track as this has turned into the wife's car have to look at replacement as the feroza is a bit too bumpy and has very little upgrade options. Just took one for a test drive, plenty of power and smooth ride. I noticed 4x4 setings 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLc, can anyone shred some light on these last two. I presume it for some kind of auto lock.

HI, do a bit of a search on here mate, Heaps of info on SWB's , the problems and the Super Select 4WD system.

The Lc is the locking of the centre diff which is needed as these can be run in 4WD on hard surfaces, full time 4WD.

As NJV6 said, the Super Select transfer case has a centre diff. 2H should be obvious , 4H is "Full Time 4wd" and the Lc on the other two indicates the centre diff is locked - equivalent to the traditional "Part Time 4wd."

Space wise, larger than a Feroza, but can still be a little choppier off-road than a LWB will be.

I'm very happy with mine, and don't see myself parting with it anytime soon.

they are great cars. but like any bread not with out it's problems "i always seem like the doom munger on here" they are realy well built are you looking at a 2.6 or a 3.0? you'll love it to bits when you get one, i even named mine

Thank's for the info. It's a 3.0L with standard rims and tyres which will be one of the first things to go and also suspension is standard.

Regarding "Lc" select as "Part-time 4x4" does this lack in any offroad performance and does it interfer with any posiible diffs locking application to front diff.

Suspension upgrades will be Rancho shocks front and back with 2" lift rear coils any suggestions.

Wheels and Tyres, 15x7 Sunraysia with 32 Coopers, is it worth going to 16"

No, the going into lock mode does not cause any implications, all it is is the same as putting a part time 4wd such as the Feroza in 4wd ie in lock mode, don't drive on hard surfaces.

It will not interfere with air locking diffs, there are many including scott that have front lockers. Not sure what the story regarding auto lockers in the front - some else may know.

Hi Daniel.

I've got the ARB locker in the front, and it's great. I've got the standard front drive train when it's off, and locked when it's on.

An autolocker (Detroit/Lock Rite/Lokka) in the front changes the way the front diff works, and pretty much negates the 4H option in the Super Select box. Have a look in the Tech Bible for threads about front diff locks - it's been covered a few times.

Have you looked into the Rancho shocks? When I looked they didn't list a fitting for Pajero to handle more than 1" lift. A couple of members did some investigating, and found a 9000 shock which might work with a pin-eye adaptor - but I don't know if anybody's tried to fit them. Perhaps you could be the guinea pig for me?

If you're happy with 32" tyres consider finding a set of 16x7" Mitsubishi factory alloys (NK/NL Paj, later Challenger/Triton) and fit 265/75-16 tyres. These are the most common size of 16" 4wd tyre in the country; if you write off a tyre in some backwater place that's the size you have the best chance of finding. Of course, there's no guarantees. This size will also have a higher load rating than any 32" tyre on a 15" rim, which I believe would make them tougher. I'm sure I could find somebody to argue that.

Thank's for all the help, anyway just put deposit down should pick up Tuesday. Then all the mod's start. Looking forward for a new challege now i have to sell the Feroza.

i ahvent been round for a few days cos i was running the shorty in the Son of Trials, but iv got a 94 NJ SWB jabber. For what it is i rekon my paj is awesome, for me and my girlfriend its mad. Little shorty, 3L V6, 2" lift, Bullbar, Winch, 33" Muddies, and the rear seats removed and it suits me awesomely. You wont be disappointed, and neiother should some of the blokes you'll go out wheelin with, most of which will be shockingly surprised ill suspect, i know a lot are when i go wheelin with them. The rear lsd works well, and a few knotches on the handbrake locks it up a bit more, the front doesnt flex well, but the rear does, and having had a feroza you should be used to lifting wheels but for what they are, theyll definately get you into mischief and back out of it, go where a lot of the 'bigger' fourbies go, and for sandowkr i dont know if youd find a better car but thats my experience, another time round prob a GQ shorty or a bundy maybe, but its fun muckin round with something that everyone pays out on, cos when you wheel better than they do they shut up real quick

The coolest thing is the ability to balance on 2 wheels (oposite corners) and rock the car, can realy give newbies a fright

yeah i just gave chucky his first work out on the week end, and came back all smiles . the 1 or 2 wheels in the air is fun but scary the first few times and i almost floped it once well it felt like it ateast zute would be a better judge of that he wasn't in the car. but i was realy suprised where it will go.

we had a shorty and a long there and it was an interisting comparo because neither was lifted and they were both running somthing like 31's. the shorty didn't scrape as much but the lwb was happyer on steep hills (30 deg), we forgot to take a pic of the inclonomiter at 40 deg.

you'll find it's not as bouncy as a feroza but then it's not as short, it's got a 95.5 inch wheel base. the first thing most people do is take out the back seats but watch out you'll have to have it engerneered as a 2 seater and have it regoed as one, (i talked to an engerneer about this)

The one I just purchased is a 94 NJ. I am going to do suspension, wheels and tyres in a few weeks. So far i have got a quote for Tough Dog front and rear shocks and rear coil springs, 15x7 sunraysia and 31x10.5 coopers or mickey tompson. I really want to put 33's on it but they recommend 31's as 33' might not fit well. Can you let me know your set up. Please send some photo's.

2inch lift should be able to clear 33x11.5
i got 33s under mine with a little less than 2" lift and factory body lift.
depending on the offset of the rims try not to go wider than 11.5" on the tyres.
