mq/mk CV options?

Hi guys,
I've broken another 2 cv's in the last month, each time I'm replacing with good looking nissan cv's from the wreckers. Do any other options exist? are others having this problem?
do haultech make stronger cv's for mq's?
can you mod and fit longfields in a mq? sounds like people are fitting them to gq's

haultech did their first set of MQ cv's last month or so...Screwy has them for TTC but wont be running them unless he breaks a stock one...
tell us what you are running and we can work from there

running a SWB MK Patrol 3.3L turbo diesel. 35" muddies, spring over, front/rear lokka. Situated in Gladstone, QLD. Terrain is dry, sometimes loose, deep ruts/gullys etc. Last two breakages have been giving the truck some stick trying to get out of a gully.
I'd be interested in trying these Haultech cv's, especially if I could get them at a good trail/introductory price.... ;-) I'd be ready to install and test them straight away. Willing to write test a report or whatever is necessary...

Nissan NTN CVs are the best replacement option for CVs.
after market is a waste of time for a modded rig and longfields etc etc are not even an option for MQs... much less Nissan.
as cody said above,
I have sitting in my shed a Pair of Haultec CVs for mine which Tony has made up for me.... i am trial running them at TTC to see how they go, as they havent been done before and there isnt much demand for them.
this is there first set, and they could bust straight away or they could be vastly improved, there is no assurance on these. after speaking to Tony, he would more than likely want to see how the trial goes on these before making many more as so he can play with them alittle as there are no guarantees that they are improved....
Tony is a top bloke and would hate to charge for them and they break straight away so....
hold tight, TTC is in a week and a half, ill let everyone know how these go and see what tony wants to do about changing the treating process or leaving them as is.....

Cool. I cant wait to see the results. I was contemplating using a GQ front diff and then run some stronger cv's. I want to get my plans all sorted so when/if i can do some mods ill be ready to go hard at it.

ok mate, look forward to hearing how they go. I'm off to get another one from the wreckers tomorrow to get me back on the road anyway. Also dropping in to talk with a drive shaft guy to discuss what could be done in the way of replacing my cvs with uni joints. Anyone considered doing this on a MQ/MK? I can't see any reason why it couldn't be done, just a matter of finding a strong cv that fits the dimensions and getting the lathe work done...?

if a toyota stub axle will fit through the mq spindle you can use a toyota cr-mo longfield with a few little changes. there is a thread on here about fitting them into a gq axle. not a difficult proccess.
if the toyota stub doesn't fit through you can still do it, you'll just need to change over to a gq spindle/hub/bearings/brakes.

Will they break?? I gotta get something better then what I currently have, I feel confident I could go and hit the same couple of sections of track and break a new cv, that sucks...

arrhh!!! broke another CV, Screwy how did that Haultech CV go at TTC? any results on these as yet... keen as mustard to give something stronger a try...
might have to look into wendle's suggestion

he broke one stock cv early...threw in the Haultech's and was sweet all weekend...
have also found that GQ cv's can fit with GQ hubs

MQ diffs
Just a bit of trivia, for a CV upgrade GQ's fit on MQ inner axels and then all you have to do is change the free wheeling hubs to GQ compatible ones, GQ's are 7mm bigger and have a bigger stub axel, then you can carry your MQ cv's and hubs for spares
MQ cvs are bigger than Hilux but have a smaller stub axel

I didn't know this... so are you saying I can fit a GQ CV to my MQ axle and then replace the freewheeling hub with a GQ one? I'd have to change wheel bearings also right? will all else fit ok??

Are you putting the CVs back on the same side of the car you took them off as they develop wear patterns which can shorten their life when run in the oposite direction.
Are you changing the axles or putting the replacement CVs on the old axles, when the star breaks it burrs the splines which then, when under load, spread the next star breaking it easier.

yes u can use a gq cv with a gq hub thats obvious as the splines will then match...
but i think you will find that the CV end of the axle on an mq is a different spline to the cv end of the axle on the gq.......
that aside, a gq CV is barely any stronger than an MQ CV. they are nearly the same, you will break them just as easy, they are only different in the spline.
with regards to the Haultech CVs. I cant say anything for sure on there strength at this point but i was definatly impressed by how well they held up at TTC. they definatly appear to be much stronger.... my biggest fear is that ill land up blowing a centre or inner axle much more quickly becuase of the strength in the CV, the next weakest link will break....
How do you manage to always break cvs? big numbers in reverse or forwards for that matter?
I NEVER break CVs offroad when i drive, i only do in copetition cause i use more accelerator.
