Its not possible to view this vehicle at present so :
Can anyone tell me the difference between 84 diff heads and 87 diff heads ?
Integral filler plug, whatever that means ?

Are the axles the same as 87 ?
If it has rancho shocks is it likely it has a suspension lift ?
Are rancho shocks in a vehicle with standard suspension the same shock used in a 2" suspension lift or are the shocks longer in a suspension lift ?

Thanks guys.

Not entirely sure what you mean by diff head. I'm thinking that you mean the cast, 3rd member housing for the diff centre.

I don't think there would be any significant difference, between 84 and 87.

Some years had the filler plug in the axle housing, some had the filler in the 3rd member housing. I'm not sure of the years - never thought either had any advantages.

If you are looking for a way to identify the year model, I think this can be determined from the serial number on the axle housing. But if the 3rd member has been swapped, then who knows!

Having after market shocks should not be taken as an indication of suspension lift.

Rancho shocks are available in a wide range of lengths, including direct replacement for stock rover.

Axles are the same and the filler plugs matter if you end up with a centre with no plug in a housing with no plug!!!

Thank you, it all becomes so obvious now.
