Ok well it know its relative to the way we all drive but what is the average life span of a TB42 engine? I have one thats just on 300,000 and would like to know if she is likely to have some life left to her.

My 1991 GQ had 384,000 on the clock :P before i had to do the head and ring's, but it got a hell of a hard time. So you should have some life left.

Ive seen Petty's with 500,000 on them still running ok. Treated right, i couldnt see why you wouldnt get that sorta kays.

Its all about servicing etc. If the maintenance has always been done, and regular servicing with good filters etc. It should last for ages yet.

The're built basically the same bottom end as a diesel. Heavy as hell but very tough.

Most of them I see for sale have 300,000+ and show no signs of smoke. I've heard over 500k's being normal.....

Thanks for the info guys

Mine isn't blowing any smoke and using no oil between changes (unless i hit it to red line when 4x4ing, then she uses a little). I must say i am pretty pleased with the TB42 engine, wish i could have gotten TB42E on gas rather than TB42, might have saved a bit more on petrol when using it.

Nissan sure seem to make good 6cylinder engines for their patrols. heard hte RB30, TD42 and the RD28T last ages also

Mine has 361K on it and I dont think it will die anytime soon.
Did the new head thing when I bought it with 300K.
I service it myself religiously every 5K and the oil that comes out of it still looks clean.

Nissan have always made really strong engines, but the 6's always seem the best of breed.
