Put a magnum 9500 on the front of the zook...wired it up as standard....worked fine with no tension on it....wound out the cable to respool it today and wheni went to wind it under load it stopped working and had that elctrical burning smell to it....solenoids still kick over and current getting to control box....
I'm hoping i haven't done the motor.....the motor barrel was very hot after some use as was the cables. I let it cool down and tried again but nothing except the click of the solenoids....all connections look good to me.
can anyone offer any suggestions at all?
cheers

That smell usually only means one thing.
An Auto Elec will confirm it for you. Bad luck dude.

Hey Dan, I aint no auto elec but sounds like motor to me... You could try giving the the motor power bypassing the control box with jumper leeds( make sure ya connet it corectly) to see if you have burnt the cables out or is the battery tired....... Dare say you would be able to get plenty of parts for magnums though (or that would suit)

battery is brand spanker... nah i'm pretty sure now that its the motor...i'll pull it out this week and have a look at it. hopefully can pick up some parts cheap for it.
Possum hunter I just got pics of our epic trip back in january. pm me your email and i'll send a couple through...they are pretty good!
cheers

Bad luck bloke .... all I know about electrical stuff is that if you let the smoke (and smell?) out of the plastic stuff, that's no good.
But seriously though it does sound like you've unfortunately burnt out the motor particularly if the solenoid pack is still operational. Is the solenoid pack the older 4 solenoid setup? Because if it is then one of those can easily burn out. Does it have power to the motor of just the solenoids? If there is still power to the motor from the solenoids then that would suggest a motor problem. Does it work in forward or reverse or not at all?

Sounds like it must be fairly new, surely it would be covered by warranty? No warranty = no purchase for me hehe Sick of buying 2nd hand crap that dies a month after buying it!

yeah well at the moment i've got no isolator on the positive to the control box so its getting power all of the time. I got a light tester and tested the positive it was working. Then i hit the wind in switch and tested the rest of the solenoids (the other 3) which all had power with the switch on. I then tested the connections at the winch motor in both forward and reverse which 3 out of 4 connections worked assuming the one that didn't work was the negative to the battery and wouldn't work if the tester was already hooked up to the chassis.
any more ideas appreciated although i've pretty much come to grips that i'll be up for a new motor.
Damn!
