im thinking of converting from a hilux 5-speed petrol box to a 4 speed diesel box. i need to know if the 4 spped box is stronger or weaker than the 5 speed.

between myself and my bro we had 4 or 5 busted diesel 5 speeds in the shed.... that was behind a v6..... (both of us)... he went worked auto...(t700) and i went h/d dyna box from marks adaptors.... if you want it to last i would go one of the dyna boxes behind a v8 and all....

the 5spd G52 is (afaik) the same size/strength whether fitted behind a diesel or petrol.
If you want a stronger manual, find a R151f from a turbo surf+hilux/1HZ 100 series... twice as strong as a G52.

If you have a g52 and you want a v8, fill it full of concrete sell it as a mooring and take your pick of of every other gearbox available. your G52 WILL NOT have a happy and fulfilling life behin a v8

Will last well if you leave it parked in the driveway. For some that drive very ( i mean very ) sensibley they seem to last, if you go wheelin forget it . Ive buit up a few over the years and the gears are just too small to handle a V8.

The newer turbo deisels boxes are an R15*f not the G5* thats in most luxes, it's the same box as the Surf's and V6 4Runner's and the V8 100 series. The R15* boxes are also in some supras but the input shafts are different

is the G52 the same from a diesel and petrol? Ratios I mean?? Obviously the mounts etc are the same, but internally??
Has anyone priced a r15 recently? Found a reco G52 for $1300, or 2nd hand for 880.. How much more would I be looking to go tougher?

R series gear boxes normally start around $1800 for 2nd hand (what ive seen), and it wouldnt be a straight for your car dude... so if you cried at $750 for a G52 then youll prob die at a R&R of a R151f...

The 4 Speed is no better ....
My brother in law popped two of them in a row behind a 302 Clev before resorting to a C4

i was always under the impression that they were heaps stronger than a 5 speed! i have a 4 speed behind my worked v8 with 35" tyres and its rock solid.
