Wheel Flares for SWB

I stumbled on this site tonight. I have been searching for wheel arch flares for my 91 NH SWB J Top Pajero. I have taken off the original 18" rims and put on 16x8" rims with 265/75/R16 Wrangler MT's. As my car doesn,t have original type flares I'm looking to buy a set.
Most places ARB, TJM etc only sell for 4 doors with a big cut out for the rear doors. I can buy small fibreglass ones from a local body shop, however they look poor and I used to have similar on my old soft top FJ 40 and they looked shabby quickly. The other option is $1200 for Bushwackers from the States.
Is there another source in Australia? I would prefer GLE looking in black plastic.

Easy done. The TJM fibreglass flares come for the SWB. I know this because i have them on my car right now. Easy to install and paint and come up looking very tidy. Do you realise that the new tyres you put on are actually smaller in diameter to your old ones on the 18" rims. Just somthing to think about. Oh yeah and do you wanna buy a nudge bar for your car? 3" ECB one with spotty mounts.

G'day Redrocket,
I reckon I bought a 18" spare off you in Brisbane last year? Yeah the 265/ 75 are smaller than the 18" Mud Diggers. You would be hard pressed to pick it though - 2mm less rolling diameter. Thanks for the information on wheel arch flares from TJM, I must have been given a bum drum.

I reckon you did buy my wheel. You should have got 285/75 R16 cause then you would have the same diameter but sh1t happens. Hows your rig going?

I thought the photo of your bus looked familar. I have now moved to Canberra.
On the tyre sizes, I believe
285/75 R16 is 285mm wide, 75 aspect profile (height), 16 inch rim
265/75/R16 is 265mm wide, 75 aspect ratio, 16 inch rim

So as the aspect ratio is the same these tyres should be the same diameter? I acually measured the 32" against the new ones. The Wrangler MT are slightly smaller in diameter than the quoted figure of 810mm.

Also I ran up TJM and they stated they no longer make flares for NH 2 doors. I an planning to email head office to search down old stock.

Paj is going good, 50,000km since importing her, biggest problem so far is one of the rollers on the sunroof cracked off, so there is a bit of wind noise above 110km/hr. And using diff lock on original 32" skinnies caused the tread blocks to rip out. Have body lifted 2", fitted sway bar releases to front and rear (my own design -not 100% sucess). And chopped the bump stops. Nothing dramatic.
In her brief time in Australia she has pulled a lot of Jeep Wranglers out of the sands of QLD beaches.

Your almost right on the tyre sizes. The diameter (i think) is worked out like Rim size + 2(aspect ratio x tyre width)
so for a 285/75 R16 you get 16" + 2(285 x 75)
16" + 427.5mm = 32.8"

If you have probs with the flares then let me know cause i actually know the ppl who make them so i might b able to do somthing, can't guarantee it but i will see.

I really haven't had the Wranglers long enough to give them a review. However I have had them up to 140Km/hr and I was pleasantly suprised at the lack of tyre roar and good bitumen handling. I hate to say it but due to work commitments they haven't yet been tried out in the mud. Compared to the Kumho MT's I had on my FJ 40 they are very quiet.

Red R,
I might take up that offer to seek out the flares, I have had no reply from TJM.

Heard back from TJM

"Sorry for the delay in responding to your email, but unfortunatly TJM no longer have the moulds for your vehicle and do not have any exsiting stock.

I have checked if any other manufacture make them for your vehicle, sorry but not for the short wheel base."
