Do you guys get the Diahatsu rugger over there??

The one that looks the same as the Toyota Blizzard, soil axles, leaf sprung etc etc??

I have just bought one (a Rugger) as a project competition truck.

It is with out an engine at the moment and i am trying to figure out what i can match the gearbox/bellhousing up to.

Any thoughts??

Any similarities between Rugger and Feroza running gear??

Anyone know the similarities between Blizzard and Rugger running gear??

I am after any info and thoughts at this stage so i can piece together a plan based on what s available to me.

I am currently considering sourcing a Toyota Blizzard bell housing (if i can find one) which could possibly bolt to the Rugger gearbox, which would then bolt to a Toyota 2.8 diesel (3L).

Any thoughts or info for a good cause??

Cheers,
Pete.

There can be a great deal of confusion regarding vehicle names in different markets.
We didnt get the "Rugger" as such over here. These vehicles, usually associated with the F7* or F8* range of vehicles, were named "Rocky" here in Oz. "Rugger" was used in the New Zealand and South Africa markets. There are 2 vehicles branded "Rugger" here in town, both at the same address, and I assume they were both grey imports.

We did have the "Toyota Blizzard" sold here. It is the same vehicle as the Daihatsu F50 series, sold as the "Scat" over here.

However, to confuse things further. I once saw a F75 Daihatsu Rocky branded as a "Toyota Blizzard" Again I assume it was a grey import.

Lets not even talk about Ferozas, Tafts, USA Rockys, ect.

Yeah, i was starting to get that impression my self when i was looking through the threads brought up in my search.

Eng: DL
Chassis:JDAOOOF7OOO634036
Trim:YG12
TYPE:F7ORV

Than any use??

I guess its an F70. How does that tie in with your modles over there??, does that fit the description i gave, solid axles, leaf sprung etc etc

Yep
F70 in the model designation is the key.

Yours should be a SWB (All steel roof) 2.8 litre diesel. The DL motor is the 2.8 litre. The earlier DG was a 2.5 diesel. Depending on what year it is, the earlier ones were leaf sprung all round, later ones were torsion bar/leaves, then torsion bar/coils.

All the DL motors are basically the same. If you can source a later one with the turbo and the intercooler, they will still bolt up to the original gearbox/transfer case assembly. Engine mounts ect are all the same. The running gear for the petrol Rockys and Ferozas are different, and dont bolt up AFAIK.

I dont know of any other motors that will bolt straight up to them. Of course, fabrication and ingenuity can do wonders, especially if its for pure off road work, where things like RWC, MOT's and rules governing modifications dont have to be worried about.

Cheers
David

Cheers, thanks, thats very usefull to know!!!!!

At this stage, its getting a Hilux gearbox and transfercase coupled to a 2 litre carbed hilux engine. That should do the job for a while, then it will get the chev V6, or Supra straight 6 treatment.

Thanks for your help, i will keep everyone uptodate as it progresses
