Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Looking for a set of new tyres. Want something with some bite to it. Currently have bfg mud terrains and am almost conviced on a set of mickey thompson claws. Any other ideas from peoples??? I am after a set of 33"s. Originally wanted the maxxis creepy crawlers... but they dont come in a 33". This is a daily driver so want something with good wear. I do alot of rock crawling and a bit of mud. Anyone have ideas or comments ???

claws are an awsome tyre, but depending on the ratio of rocks and mud you could look at the mtr.

not a fan of the mtr's. A couple of mates have had them and they wore very badly on the road.

New Kuhmo's might be worth a look.....I'm really happy with them so far...

that could be an issue with balance, rotation, pressures, or dozen other things.

I thick radial claws are CRAP, cRap crAP. No lateral grip, even on fast dirt, don't clean well in the mud at all and are bad on wet asphalt aswell. but they seem ok on dry bitumen and reasonably quiet. but i'd have more faith in a BF muddie than a radial claw both on and off road.

I am happy with Radial Claws as they suit my style of driving. There are plenty of very happy and satisfied Claw owners... as there are for BFG, Cooper etc. etc.
Having said that, they don't suit everyone. As I have said in the past.... there is not one tyre out there that suits everyones needs. If you have some mates with a set of Claws on, ask them for a test run. It's the only sure fire way of happiness, try before you buy. This goes with any brand/pattern on the market.

from what I have seen, the new BFG wear similar to the MTR, the old BFG with the hard rubber compound wore well but got pretty dicy on road when wet at times, claws fantastic in the mud, lacking in reverse and could be better on side, but ok, reasonable onroad and wear pretty good and also pretty good when worn while offroad, MTR and BFG crap after about 50% wear, old cooper STT wear well, but not as agressive as they could be, new STTS similar trad to MTR and ver good allrounder like the MTR, wear a little similar to MTR if treated right. sumitomo is a well priced mud option, wear ok, as good as the rest, havnt seen performance once worn though

find a tyre you like and buy it, there are more oppinions on tyres than on holden v ford

i found my claws better than bfg muddies off road by far, cleaning, grip etc, and also found that on road grip (wet and dry) and dirt driving were also better, but we all have different opinions and its also been quite some time since ive driven my car, but we wont go into that

I am extremely happy with the Claws I have on my ute . They are a good allrounder, heaps better on the road than BFG or MTR in my opinion & great performer offroad. Easiest just to PM ryano with your details & what you want from the tyre & he will point you in the right direction.

i would suggest that this style of post is not quite needed. Have your opinion by all means but do not go over the top.... when the tyres have clearly proven themselves as being good good good.... maybe just a better choice of words....

my 35 claws handled well, no louder than an mtr... needed approx 5 less lb in sand for that floating feeling and cleaned well particularly against the mtr but i have seen the bfg perform well..

i personally would have the claw again without hesitation

and yes if your in the mighty brivegas head fourby's marooka way and speak to our resident rubber guru ryano

I don't think it's appropriate that you have a sig. line insinuating stuff about mine or anyone else's mother, but i don't care because I'M not the forum police. I aslo feel it's a valid opinion as i,ve driven on or owned quite a few sets of tyres e.g. BF muds, Simex, Claws etc.

You could also state which Claws you do have Radial or Bias and what else you've owned, as the 2 tyres are very different with very different charecteristics.

i just bought a new set of Silverstone MT 117 Sport, 33's and my previous tyres were BFG Muds i would have to say the Silverstones are unreal, road handling wet and dry is awesome and in the deep mud they just keep on crawling, im very happy with them!!!!!!

Have you considered Pro Comp Xterrain?
I believe it would be better daily driver,and from what I read about them,they as good on rocks as MT/R's and better in mud.
I haven't owned this tyre but am considering as next set.

Yeah i know a few people that have pro comp xterrain and they are all happy with them rocks mud sand it performs, i have got a set going on me lux once i get my SAS finished

i ran x-terrains they were good on rock but shitfull in the mud so i sold them after a few months and got myself some real rubber

yeah,but that "real rubber" wouldn't be too good for daily driver,would it?

the et2's are pretty good onroad quieter and handle better then the JT2's i used to have but i doubt you would get many klm out of them onroad.

I wish everyone would clarify between radial and bias, radial should be good for 40 to 50 km with moderate bush work, bias about 30 to 35.

is that 40,000 to 50,000 or 4,000 to 5,000

cus that sounds a bit fucked if its 30 to 35 a 4B would use that in a full days driving

I have x-terrains on my GU - im happy with them as road tyres and reasonable offroaders, obviously they are not boggers but they seem to have a reputation for good kays, from what I have done, are as good as a muddys in the mud and are good on most surfaces. Im really happy with them after having MTRs (which I reckon the Xterrains are better than in most circumstances) but they are directional. They are expensive but you can get them cheaper if you are in the know and worth the $$$ I reckon as an allterrain/mud terrain type tyre.

apologies rv my bad. ... i shall stop recomending a reputable company that has looked after many of the outers crew with their toys. is clearly a bad thing to do..... i wish i had been recomended their when first on this page as would have save time $$ & effort.... didnt get ontpo them for 12 months...

i simply meant instead of using such harsh comments something along the line of "i wasnt a big fan of the claws" would be in the better interest of the fourum.... nothing to serious contructive criticism i think it's called my friend........ anyway lets move on.... radials....

have played with et's played on bfgs and played with bias....

would like to have a crack at creepy's at some stage..... as a good happy medium..... some of the cheapers can do the job also, had hancook muddies yrs back on 4runner which i had no complaints about.....

and it's phippseys mum we speak of just cant use names
