snorkel and highway driving

Im running 3.9 ratios, series 3 rockhopper on 31" simexes. I can do 100 possibly 110 depending on the wind. I have a home made snorkel, which I discovered that when I reversed the cobra head on top, I could sit comfortably on 100K. Why is this so? Do I need toadjust my carby to run the head forwards?
Thanks in advance.

perhaps too much air was being forced in and causing the engine to run lean? just a thought =)

In colder weather I can't run my snorkle at highway speeds, as it freezes the carby, and runs crap, and/or stalls.
I shut it off at the air filter cold/warm switch in winter, therefore getting warmer air from under bonnet.
It's fine offroad tho, in any weather.

If it runs better backwards, leave it there. My carby has iced up too on really cold nights. Though usually i dont have an issue with the snorkel head pointed either way.

I used to have icing issues as well.
This is more prevelant with the a vit carb bolted to a sierra manifold as the carb doe not get enough hot water running through it ..

Just a quick one, Did the vit carb perform better or same as a normal sierra one?
Anyone know how a toyota 4k carb will be from this icing? give man choke system.

The answer is dunno ..
When I had a 1.3 I had a 1.3 carb, When I had a 1.6 I had a 1.3 head with a 1.3 intake and a 1.6 carb

and mine was rejetted to take advantages of other mods done to the head..
To be honest I dont think that a 1.6 carb would make a huge if any difference on a 1.3 unless it had some other mods to help it breathe better as well ..

I am running a vitara head also, Ive been told that too much air can be harmful as the carby engine has no computer to compensate unlike EFI. What are your thoughts?
