Outer Limits 4x4 Board

im looking at doing an engine replacement in the neer future and im not sure what type of engine i should go for, it is for a bundera and im looking for somthing with power. i was originally thinking of a shortblock 350, then later thinking as it will be a comp truck diesels are better in mud, what are the chances of fitting a TD4.2 into a bundera?? is there other options that are better???
can you hook a TD4.2 to a auto Gbox or not??

Evan, a short block just means without heads, (whole engine minus heads, manifolds and ancillaries) which assumes you already have the heads for the motor???

Unless you intend driving through lots of deep water then I don't see how a diesel would be better. I am no expert on bunderas, bt I think you will have a hard time fitting a straight 6 in there. If you want a diesel I think that something like a 4JB1T (rodeo/jackaroo 2.8L) would ge a good option or a toyota dyna 13BT if you can fit it. For a petrol then a small V8 (rover 3.5) or V6 (holden 3.8) would probably bethe best option.

have you looked at a 1UZ out of a soarer/celsior/crown awsome motor heaps of grunt and they are cheap to buy, the conversion should be pretty easy much the same as a Hilux

i was told about using the engin out of a sourer or supra forget what engine it was maybe twin turbo cant remember but there was some hassles with sump clearance

IIRC the 1UZ-FE came with two different sumps. If you get the front sump version then you should be sweet. http://www.lextreme.com is a great source of info on these engines.

Commodore V6 with auto. You can fit a straight 6 diesel aswell.

I thought some of these came with a 2f or a 2h (4lt petrol or diesel). Or was that a MWB. Ican never remember whats what. But I did test drive one of those short toyotas with a 4lt petrol six.

MWB had a straight six in it... i think it could be retrofitted...

old man had one, developed a handy amount of power, if you were happy to feed it the fuel... would guess the SWB is lighter so should propel even better if it fits.

not to worried but feeding it as it will be a comp/weekend car once i can afford a 2nd car im just after a reliable fairly big powerplant to replace my shit heap 22R i think a 6 would be more economical than an 8. would one of the smaller diesels with a decent turbo push power or not???

why not have the best of both worlds, go the 8 & run it of gas, more power & still cheaper to run?
