Does anybody have any pics of a custom TD42 turbo manifold. I am just interested in what they look like compared to a standard one?

I'll be back home on 10th April so I'll post pics then of my new high mount manifold for you. It's being built as we type.

Just curious, why choose a high mount over a low in this application? I'm thinking of turboing my TB42 and am wondering which one is best suited. I am thinking low mount and fitting intercooler above it. But why is there a high mount available? Is there a specific purpose?

I'm running a front mount intercooler so I have the choice of mounting it high or low and this turbo is going on my competition truck and as such I go through some pretty deep water and a fair bit of mud so mounting it high will protect it better. I want to minimise the chance of water or mud getting onto a glowing red turbo housing and maybe causing it to crack. The manifold I'm getting custom made to suit my turbo and application.

What kind of turbo are you going to use toughnut, GT30, GT35

Toughnut, I assume the comp truck doesn't have ac though, and therefor you gained extra space for intercooler there. I'm not concerned about the water issue although you are right and it is still a consideration. It's an expensive crack. I was thinking of a top mount intercooler to considerably reduce the intake volume and therefor lag. I've done some homework on which turbo and it's most likely a GT35 but not sure which one. As VN15 said, which turbo did you choose and why? And why aftermarket manifold and not a cast one?

I think a GT35 would be too big.
Most people are using GT28 or GT25
The one am going to use is called a disco potato similar to that of the GT28 but smaller exhaust wheel and should spool quicker but runs out of puff after 3800ish....
its also difficult for a cast manifold as one needs to be cast up for the job the tube/pipe manifolds do the trick and in regards to the radiator and air con it shouldnt be an issue alot of people i know run fronts mounts in the front of there gu's and gq. I hope to get mine done soon as well 04 GU

I don't quite know which Garret but it is a 600hp ball bearing jobbie. I think it's a GT35 or maybe even a 40 but I'm only guessing. I do know that the intake is 106mm and the exhaust is similar.
I do understand what you guys are saying about the intake volume but on a diesel it doesn't matter nearly as much as a petrol because you don't have a throttle body. This is also why you don't need a blow off valve. I've gone for a custom manifold because the after market dump pipe I got was cast and it cracked open when I was having a play. I don't want the same thing to happen to my new manifold. It's also lighter and I can have it made to suit any application for pretty much the same money that I can buy a cast one.
I'm already spending a fair bit on plumbing so the price of a custom manifold didn't add much at all.
The comp truck has A/C at the moment but I'm taking it out during the rebuild. I've also gotten rid of the engine fan and I'm running twin 16inch thermo's on a slimline radiator shroud which allows me to move my radiator back towards the engine by about 2inches. This gives me enough room to have a decent intercooler and a large combination oil cooler that does the engine and power steering. It also gives me a bit of room to move the winch back as well
I'm going to run a second radiator on the tray to give me extra cooling for when I really get into it

I should be getting some pics email to me today and as soon as they arrive i'll post them up.
The manifold will suit GT25 or GT30 roller bearing turbos

Is that the motor and turbo for your Patrol Alberto?
If so. Could you let us know some of the specifications on what you've had done and why?

Hope he seperated the flange plate between some of the exhuast ports, or you're just asking for the entire flange plate to warp and blow gaskets.

I heard/read somewhere that the TD42 manifold will bolt up to the TB42 and the TB45, is this true? If so would it be effective to use to turbo a TB45?
Cheer's

These MonstA turbo manifolds on ebay are going cheap for VL tubos and skyline RB25's. Im thinking of getting one for a VL and cutting the plate off and welding a new one on to suit the TB45 GU patrol i have.

I have a new Garrett GT35/40 turbo from an xr6 turbo and an autronic engine management computer. It seems bloody cheap considering the labor involved.
What do you guys reckon, and morkz how much for the one you posted about.?

That VL turbo manifold has a pipe for an external waste gate.
Should sound good at full noise but the GT35/40 have an internal gate

Yeah i know. I was going to get a sheetmetal worker to cut it off and Tig weld a block off plate near the boss at the join.
