A mate is lookin at buying an 89 model that only has 150 000 kms on it. I think it is a bit dear at $14000 but he seems keen on it. How do they perform? He was looking for a petrol one but can't find one.

Tell me the good and the bad.

Mate, $14000 is way too much for an '89 even with 150 000ks. If he wants a petrol there are plenty of 3.2 V6s around going cheap (even late models) because no one wants them because they chew the juice. Tell him to start at Cousins at Rockea- they usually have heaps of rodeos or just check the Courier Mail or Trading Post- there are usually sh!t loads around.

Are you sure he or you don't mean 98 model as the 89 model only came out with a 2.5 Diesel.

If its a 98 Model and its been looked after it'd be a good buy.

It's actually a 93 model. Still overpriced by the look of it. Thanks for the info guys and your opinions.

14,000 is a lot for a 1993 model, Ill sell him my late 1994 for that though :D

They are an honest ute if theyve been looked after.
The engine is a good one and eats hiluxs for dinner.
Economical on fuel under 110kmh.
Condition would be more important than price IMO but 14 thou is a lot too much, see if he can beat him down to 10.

Suspension will be a bit tired, exhaust probably has a clogged muffler if its original and it may need its injectors done.
Look for rust up where the 2 crossmembers bolt onto the chassis, 1 crossmember supports the g/box and the other is between the two lower suspension arms.
Look for damage from rocks underneath.
The older ones are more capable than the later model RAs if you can believe the 4wd press.
good luck
