another alarm Q

looking at sticking a DAMN LOUD! alarm in my rover(carb), most (read all) the alarms I've seen around lately have immobilisers too... being the car is likely to be dunked on more than one occaision I'm trying to avoid going down that path.
are there any kits people recomend? or even set me on the right way to build something for myself, I am planning on running it through central locking mostly for ease of arming/disarming.

Easiest way to immobilise a petrol engine is to short out the points. But you've got to hide the wire from the coil -ve, or a thief may spot it and cut it. Similarly, isolating an electric fuel pump can work, or install a fuel isolation solenoid from a diesel.
You could install a hidden switch somewhere in the cab, or other people have "re-assigned" standard switches. i.e. put in new a/c switch, and use original a/c switch for immobiliser.
To really f*ck a thief's mind, put in a simple timer so the engine will start and run for a few seconds before stalling. Got to make sure the timer resets every time the engine cranks, so thief gets start - run - stall; start - run - stall etc and they decide the engine is too farked to worry about.

Install three piezo-electric screamers IN the car (air vents and speaker holes - no one uses the stock speaker holes anyway). Nothing will ensure a (potential) thief gets out of you vehicle quickly than three screamers going off (you only have two hands...). Install the on/off switch to the alarm in the rear of the vehicle, boot/under tray (or under tray adjacent to drivers door so can be switched on with minimal effort/attention, or make it look like you are getting something from your vehicle when you flick the switch. Wire the ignition to actually trigger the alarm. First thing most thieves do is try to turn the ignition on to reset the alarm...
Big thing is to be different. Most thieves know the alarm systems better than the installers and manufacturers, so DON'T go with the flow.

i used to have my patrol setup that you have to manually earth out the earth wire on the starter solonoid. It worked sweet as except it got a little jumpy at times due to 24 volts. All you could see was a yellow wire with a male bullet connector hanging out of the dash.

The way I read your post is that you want an alarm but no immobiliser. The solution is simple, buy an alarm and dont wire in the immobiliser circuit(s). Simply cut off these wires at the alarm or tape them up under the dash. You will have all the features of an alarm as far as shock sensors, keyless central locking and whatever else your chosen alarm features but no immobiliser.

I read it the same way too, and agree with the solution.

thanks Trusa, thats basically what i was saying in a roundabout way
damkia's piezo-electric screamers sound like the way to go though!

Do a search on Spyball. They make miniature battery backup sirens that are a lot louder than piezo sirens (plus ripping the wires off them won't shut them up!)
I installed on inside a car I had (in the dash) and it could be clearly heard from a long distance with all the windows up and the under bonnet siren going!
