Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Trying to make my mind up for family vehicle either bewteen a few yotas to the Nissans 3l turbo diesel auto .....and now the 4.8 fuel guzzler engined with auto ..... as the misses cant drive the stick versions


Ive heard all the storys about just how thirsty these are well im chasing some first hand info on /off people who have or still own 1 .... and also to the 1's that have fitted lpg as I will do this if one comes along for the right price ( of which there has been a few recently ) .....


So if some 1 has say highway to city fuel usage info

And also the same but with LPG fitted .... that would be tops ...

I own one - 4.8 manual (I think auto is marginally better in fuel consumption).

From first hand experience, budget on around 19-20 Ltr/100 for around town. It's not much better on the highway, but I'm usually towing a camper on the highway so can't say with certainty.

Some other experiences:

My manual 4800 car still runs 16.5 lt/100km average over
70,000km now. Goes to 18's with muddies and 15's on long
highway trips at speed limit.

I have just purchased a 2002 4.8 auto on gas and my first tank of gas returned 24.34 ltr per 100 km driving half country and half city, so I hope I can improve on this as I would kill to get some of the figures you are quoting. I'll keep you posted on how I go with the next few tanks. ***** Further to my recent post, I have found that I'm getting 17.5 ltr/100km on petrol and I found that I had the wrong LPG unit on the vehicle and updated to an Impco which reduced the consumption from 24.5ltr/100km to around 17.5-18ltr/100km which is a vast improvement.

Have just filled my new 4.8 manual for the first time.
I chickened out at 700Km and just as well as in took 119lt.
This is 17lt/100km which would give it a range of 750-800km.

4.8 Auto ABS....fuel economy ??????? What's that ??????

Around town (heavy right foot) >25L/100km
Around town (not so heavy) 20-23L/100km

Highway (average speed 110kph) 18-20L/100km
Highway (average speed at limit) 17-19L/100km

depending how you drive, but from what ive read, yes.

don't the 4.2L GQ engines use 22L/100K's if so the 4.8 would be a good motor.

A friend of mine has a 4.5 GU turbo petrol..and that thing is a thirsty beast. He had the opportunity to drive a 4.8 manual, petrol only, and he guessed that it would use a lot more fuel than when his GU was normally aspirated.

Reasons, Larger capacity but as the 4.8 revs out more easily than the the previous 4.2 and 4.5's so you would be tempted to drive it harder.

As rioad nazi said, the beast just spins so freely its hard to keep ya boot out of it.
Across a varied range of conditions, towing a work trailer, city and highway driving i am getting anywhere between 16 to 24 litres per hundred. Is it worth it. Bet your sweet arse it is. this thing pulls like a train and revs like a hot small block. Luvit.

LOL ......cheers mate im dont consider those figures too badish , my old boy gets high teens early twenty's just onroad city and alot higher towing with his 100s petty auto ...

Well im still looking the 12/02 model i was lookin at was a bit more thrashed (ex fleet) than i had hoped for .......but the silver in these look swheet but i dont go much for the brownish interior ..
