front or rear locker?

I'm looking at putting an air locker in the shorty. It has LSD in the back, so I was thinking of having it installed in the front (can only afford to get one). I have spoken to a couple of installers and they suggested getting it in the back. Just wondering what others have, or what you would recommend?

Thanks,
Pete

Although i already have 2 to fit to mine ..... if i only had 1 the front 4 sure .......my lsd is super tight will spin twins if you drive up a enbankment and thats on cement  ................mine,s only a maller though ...........

So go the front if the rear aint to crash hot just get it shimmed (tighten it up or try some of the lube that jk runs in his ;)

Sorry to contradict redzook but...

In the rear - I believe you cannot get the same performance out of an LSD that you can out of a locker... i.e. it will not completely lock up and you will have to spend your time with your foot on the brake to make it work / lock etc...

If you know that you are getting 1 air locker, and then planning on getting a cheaper locker (i.e. a detroit locker) for the 2nd locker - then put the air locker in the front... It's better to be able to control when the front is on / off then the back so that you can control when your steering is going to work well / or when it is going to be locked up...

Look a bit futher forward and decide what you are going to spend your cash on...

If you are getting 1 locker only ever - put in in the back

But

If you are getting 1 locker only now with another one coming - put it in the back, but if you are getting one air locker and one detroit - get the air locker in the front.

But

If you are getting 1 air locker now, and 1 air locker later - put it in the back first, and the front later.

Cheers,

Anyone installing them will recommend rear as that is what is easiest to do. Front is the best then work towards a rear later!

I'd go a front for the Nissan first as the factory rear limo works really well.
As they have a transmission brake you can't use the handbrake to help lock it up but you can use the footbrake to limit rear wheel spin.
Why replace a functioniong traction aid with a better one if the front is still open :?:
A front locked Patrol with functioning rear lsd will outperform a rear locked only version in most situations.

My old man had the Green GU out at Appin, with rear LSD and Air locker in the fron, and it went evrywhere i went with the duel AIrlockers. Id say chuck it in the front!

Repsol Cartago Multigrade EP so I have been told by the man who put me onto it.

Works like a treat. Gets both rears spinning running 35/36s. Only unloads when under a lot of load and fully crossed up.

Locker in the Front for sure!!!

Depends on what sort of driving you are doing.

If you are driving lots of horizontal stuff with tyre sized rocks and ledges and stuff then I would put it in the front.

If you are more into the steeper terrain and hill climbs whether they be totally rock or dirt/rock or totally dirt then I would put it in the rear.
