Gti conversion - In tank fuel pump question.
Gti conversion - In tank fuel pump question.
I have asked a number of questions on this topic. I realise bazooked has suggested a series of commodore fuel pumps for feed the fuel rail. But I am only a dumb kid to work a complicated system like that. I would like to know of an intank fuel pump, which has the right pressure, and would be easy to find (please not commodore, I have a personal thing against them). I know the gti samurai site suggested a N12 ET/ EXA HP fuel pump. I just spent about $20 of fuel looking around Queanbeyan for a sierra fuel tank and a Nissan fuel pump, each time the person at the desk laughed. Is there an alternative to the nissan fuel pump. I just want to get this out of the way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

sierra tank does not have big enough access hole to fit in tank pump wich is why bazooked suggested the dunnydoor external pump. either go external or change your tank, but i think we have been down this road before. no doubt somebody will correct me if im wrong but i think the et pump is the same or similar to the vl
or you could just buy mine, its all sorted

you can fit a intank pump into a leafy tank.
you need to use a holesaw in the provided cutout part of the tank.
drill the screw holes to suit..
make sure you remove all traces of shavings.
we use the intank pump from ford falcon ea, eb,ef..
never had a problem and can be found at every wrecker for cheap.

Gday mud4b,
So I can fit a internal pump into the leafy tank? Its just that someone suggested that I couldnt because I needed a swirl pot or something, but I never do much 4 wheelin, even if I did, would fitting a falcon pump in a leafy tank have any side effects when doing up hills (45 deg). Mud4b ytour a champ mate, youve finally provided a solution
. Have you got any hints with installing the pump? Such as gaskets to make up and sealing the pump in etc. Just want to know what to get from ripco or whereever
Thanks champ

yes they do fit.. a swirl pot is protection for your engine, but i have the same setup (vitara carby fuel tank chopped to fit a efi intank pump) without a swirl pot and have never had a problem of the engine running out of fuel.beaver700 wrote:Gday mud4b,

when you get your pump from a wreckers you get the pump support/ holder, ask for the rubber gasket for it also. the gasket allows you to mark the holes you need to cut into the tank.

i do not run a gti engine.. it is similar though being a g13bb from a jimny.beaver700 wrote:Mud4b,
How long have you had the gti setup on your sierra?. Also what could I use to cut into the tank?
Cheers
i use a holesaw... lube it up turn it at a slow speed... it will not spark so no need to worry about blowing yourself up.

i also have a jimny g13bb engine, but i am using and external dunnydoor pump. just cut the rubber hose, connect the pump up and wire it up.
runs aswell, which is a bonus
but i will be getting a lift pump aswell. the lift pump is from a datsun bluebird series 2. cheap as chips
runs aswell, which is a bonus

I could be wrong, but I was of the understanding that coil sierra tanks will allow a vitara in-tank pump to bolt in. Coil sierra tanks do have a swirl pot as far as I recall.

you are spot on...
the swirl pot is very small though at 80mm high with a open top.
