My patrol (GQ) over haeted yesterday found top rad hose leaking,so i changed it and it is still over heating..iam losing coolant from the over flow bottle . i removed the rad cap once it had cooled down enough then let the engine run and it started to bubble up, could this mean i have done my head .

So its blowing bubbles into the overflow with the rad. cap on?
If petrol, your local mechanic can confirm easily by testing the gases coming from the radiator.

Start with replacing the radiator cap and get a CO2 test done.

The bubbles COULD (hopefully) be air locks in the cooling system..... Let engine cool down completly then start up and have another look. Is there steam from the exhaust after starting up? Are you loosing coolant from the overflow bottle when it goes back into the radiator as the engine cools down, or is it due to a leaking overflow bottle? Make sure when refilling, fill slowly and allow air bubbles to escape. Where is the needle resting on the temp gauge?

the coolant is coming out of the pipe of the over flow bottle , the temp gauge went from from about quarter mark and then up to just under top mark ,this just from idling for 5 mins then lifting revs to about 1500 for a few mins thats when temp shot up and coolant started coming from overflow bottle tube.If there are air locks in system will this make it over heat.

Yes. I had this problem when I replaced my water pump.
Make sure there are no air locks in the radiator, I just kept on filling until the bubbles stopped and then kept filling some more. I am sure there is a better way

found problem the head is rooted which has spread to one the piston bores so iam up for a re build ,time to get rid of the patrol.Quoted at least $8 to $9000 to fix.

Pity people don't give an idea of where they are. Then they could be directed to a place to buy a motor, on this forum there is a lot of helpfull people willing to give out names and places.
For example you can get a reco motor in WA for $4600, in VIC for $4000 to $4750 and NSW for $4850.

Morkz says his mate can get 4.5 crate donks for $5k or did... Cheaper than $8k.
There was a Turbo Intercooled TD42 on here for $10k
About $8k sounds ballpark from couple of prices Ive read on forums.
Think about a Chev V8 Diesel Conversion

Look in the for sale section and buy a second hand TD42 and fit it yourself. 9k would be for a complete rebuild, and most of that would be machine shop labour. The engine bits themselves are not that expensive--during my rebuild, the most expensive bits were the cylinder liners-6@$183 each (gen Nissan)--UNless your cylinder head is unrepairable..

Who gave you that quote as it is bloody expensive. I am assuming it is a diesel as I couldn't read anywhere that says otherwise but an expensive rebuild like that must be a diesel.
I've just sold a complete TD42 GQ motor for $2000, travelled 249K's and incluing most accessories. Personally I would be looking for a good motor to transplant. I recall Toughnut on here selling his GU TD42 complete with turbo and intercooler for $6500 a few months back (done around 100Ks?) so look around before you plonk your hard earned down.
Good luck
