I have a carby 4.2 petrol in an 89 Maveric and wanted some extra power and was thinking about upgrading to a later model 4.5 injected motor. Has anyone done this and is this the best bang for your $. I can get a low millage 4.5 motor wiring loom and computer for $4000.

Did not want to go straight gas and turbo the current motor that I have as I have trouble getting gas sometimes and thought that a V8 conversion would cost too much.

Has anyone got a better suggestion?

I don't know anything about this really....

But I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine in S.America. He has a 1990's GQ Patrol with the 4.2 carby and also wants more power. He told me he can get his motor bored out and fit the 4.5 pistons which will increase his horse power a fair share. He didn't mention fuel injection so no idea what his plans are with that.

So does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Why not go the 4.8?
