Turned on the Air Con yesterday and cold air only came out of
the windscreen vents... Moved the control to face position ...and
nothing happened. No matter which position it is put on it just comes
out of the windscreen vents. Can onyone shed some light on what
could be wrong, and how to go about fixing it?? Temperiture is nice
and cold it just won't flow onto the car.. P.S. Jeep is a 1997 Grand
Cherokee Laredo

I had the dial in my 2000 TJ snap... Similar affect.
See if you can pull the switch out of the dash, I grabbed mine and super glued it back together .. been good ever since.
Just a guess seeing as your's aint a TJ.

My TJ had the same fault. The air vent control is vacuum/pressure operated in a TJ. If it is the same deal in your Laredo, then look for any disconnected air lines behind the control. There should also be a small black plastic box or similar as a vacuum/pressure resevoir connected via a T into the airline somewhere. I guess the airline connect to the intake manifold somewhere.

Thanks for that info..... Will check out for loose hoses in the morning
and see if I can find any hoses that are loose or off.
Will let you know what I find.

Just checked the TJ FSM, there is a "check valve" on the manifold takeoff too which may have failed. As I recall properly, my TJ would blow air on the windscreen when the engine was under load and then return to the desired setting when under light load - was a leaky vacuum system (dealer fixed under warranty so not sure which bit).

Yup had a similar prob in my TJ - as MattC said.
Also my cable to the heat developed a kink at the non-knob end - just outside the cable sheath...The result was you could slide the dial but SFA changed in temp.....

UPDATE... Took the Jeep to local Jeep dealer to get them to have a look
Was told that the problem was the Dryer--Receiver and that it would cost about $960. to have it fixed.
Day before it was to go in a mate come around for a garage session, while checking out the Jeep we noticed a small spagetti sized hose at the back of the manifold that had rubbed a hole through it near the end .... cut it off and pushed it back on
problem solved.... ten seconds and a small snip...
I know who needs the small snip
The dealer has just lost a customer for life.......
