Engine making oil???

Heres my problem, it seems my engine has made oil somehow. When i changed the oil and replaced the filter i think it took 3.5-4L of oil and checked it the otherday its WAY over the full mark. Can an engine gain oil at all?? was thinkin something along the lines of the mechanical fuel pump leaking into the head??

thanks if you can help out.

P.s it a G13a.

hmm - interesting,

I have spent far too long stuffing around with the mechanical fuel pumps on sierras. The block should only fill with fuel if you have A) a very worn pump - the seal between the "oiled" side of the pump and the "atmospheric" side of the pump must be shot (this is not uncommon) and B) the breather in the pump (this faces rearward and is about 6.8mm dimater) is blocked.

If the breather hole is not blocked, the fuel pump diaphram has failed and the seal is intact, you will have a fuel leak at the back of the block. If the seal is broken and the breather is open, you will have a big oil leak at the back of the block.

Only if the breather is blocked and the diaphram and seal are both stuffed will you fill the block with fuel. It is possible, but typically only it you (or someone else) has deliberately blocked the breather.

I have learned this from bitter, bitter experience :?

Because oil floats on water, if you have a bad head gasket leak or cracked head, it can seep down overnight, and as it settles the oil will float on it, making hte reading rise on the stick. Not very likley, but possible.

If the oil was cold, it can take a long time to get to the bottom of the engine. Not unusual to discover a rise in level after running fer a while.
but you should check for the other issues, too.

I think it only takes 3.5 litres including filter according to the book, but I usually need more.
