MK intercooler/snorkel/air filter questions

Howdy .. Thinking about re-arranging the air flow in the Mk to give a bit more power and cooler running.. all comments welcome..

Currently running a AIR FLOW snorkel with a long arm into the standard air filter then into top of motor (or wherever that goes) I think there is a more effecient way, but I want to make sure I am going the right way about it.. If you forsee any problems or have comments please let me know.. I'd love the help

Thinking of getting a 3" stainless snorkel made down A pillar straight through guard (no arm) into some other style of air box with K&N filter (and removing the current air box/filter on top of motor). then into top of motor. Then running a top mount intercooler from a Supra or Soarer (with a GU bonnet scoop) back to turbo and mounting the intercooler above the motor where the original air box/filter was. This way the intercooler is central in the bonnet and conforms to the moulding in the bonnet..

What type of replacement air box should I use.. My SD##T will need some nice clean cold air to give some extra grunt.. will this do the job???

Obviously I'm doing this on the budget side of things but is the idea gunna work? Is the diameter of the snorkel enough? Please advise !

I think 3" is SURE big enough!

From the basic measurements I took, I reckon a Saab 9000 front mount intercooler will just fit in the grille nicely. They're huge compared to most top mounts, flow much better and have the advantage of superior cooling even at standstill. That way you can keep your standard air cleaner, save a hundred bucks on the scoop, and not have to cut a hole in your bonnet.
