my mates had his spare tyre off his 75 troopy at my place and he came to pick it up. we got talking about them and and as i was looking at his tyre i noticed it had a machine like cut right round on the inside wall that i new wasnt meant to be there. he told me it was off the front passenger side so i stuck my head under and sure enough that tyre had the same gouge in it.

with a bit of testing i noticed that when turned to full right hand lock the nipple on the tierod fitted perfectly in the cut. the whole drag like feels sloppy but i dont know why it would be hitting there.

hes running speedy rims with 285 75 16 bfg at's

any ideas please ?

Offset of the rim? With the extra width and height of the tyre, you need a bit more offset to get them out and away from the steering on lock.
Have a look at the steering stops and see if one side is adjusted more than the other (this could be why it hits only on one lock).

Cheers,
