shark, ive had this problem in the past and have solved it by one or more of the following reasons....

rca leads/terminals earthing out on the body

rca leads running next to power cables (they must be seperated down either side of the car)

poor earth, must be fully touching bare betal or run back to the negative terminal

loose joint in speaker connections or head unit power supply

an engine noise suppressor can be fitted to the alternator or a noise filter box can be bought to plug inline with your rca leads.

good luck.

You also need to run the power feed directly from the battery (use fuses of course). Grounding all the components to the same solid chassis point may also help.

if you are running amps i would put a ground loop isolator in the RCA lines and put a noise suppressor on the head unit.

Both of these are available from places like Jarcar, Autobarn, super cheap auto etc.

Cheers
Simon.
