265x75x16 tyres on 2003 xcab hilux

Hey there im wanting to know what it takes to fit 265x75x16 tyres to my 2003 xcab lux. I had no probs on the back, but when bolted up to front had no steering clearance. Im guessing a susspension lift is a must so whats the best way to lift torsion bars ?

Hi Trilux,
I have these size fitted to my dual cab hilux, have a 2" body lift, had the rear springs reset 2" higher and had the torsion bars wound up a little to match the rear. I did have to trim the front mudflaps a little as the plastic is an odd shape and will rub. Anyway I am on the south side of Brisbane if you want to have a look.

cheers for the info, yeah i noticed that the mud flaps might be an issue, i will need guard flares im guessing cause the tyres sat out a bit from the body. Now ive been told that winding up torsion bars will not allow me to get a proper wheel alignment , ive spotted a set of EFS 40mm lifted torsion bars cost $410 r these worth purchasing ?also any ideas on insurance wise lifting body n big tyres will they still cover me?

I would not bother with the after market torsion bars, I know of a lot of guys who have fitted them and removed them again. If you dont wind the torsion bars right up you will have no dramas with an alignment. Mine is ok but the camber is still out a little from specs. You can get a 2" body lift approved no worries, I guess you just have to notify your insurance company.

G'day mate,
I have had no problems fitting 265/75x16 tyres to my 2003 IFS Hilux. I have BFG all-terrains fitted and going by the spec sheet on the BFG site, the 265/75x16 is 32" in overall diameter and 11" wide. I have had TUFF DOG torsion bars and leaves put in, the torsions have been wound up 2"and Ive removed the the mud-flap at the front and trimmed back the plastic aswell as the bottom of the sill about an inch giving me heaps of clearance. Will post a pic of the mod when I get round to it. Im in Melbourne so if ya need more help with it let me know.
Im thinkin of getting diff-lock(Lock-rites front and back) and fitting either 32/11.5x15 or 33/10.5x15 Mud-Terrains on it soon. As soon as they are on, i'll get a low range crawler gear put in.

hey guys thanks for the info, ive decided to go with 2" sus n 2" body lift
Now i was talking to a guy at wacol sring works n he told me 2" reset on standard leafs the spring hangers will camber over n recomended i get longer springs which he priced at $180 each
also would anyone know how long the bolts for the body mounts r that i need to buy ? Im a boilermaker n have access to a lathe ect so im doing all the work myself. Ive found now with the body lift i will have to remount my ARB winch bar :( more work again
with the 2" suspesion lift will it affect the driveshaft at all n if so what is needed to correct the new angle?

I have the bolt lengths for the 50mm lift some where I will look tommorrow at work.
Some of the rear bolts that hold the tray/tub on are pricy.
They are the typical fine thread metric that screw into the chasis.
Make your blocks from OD60mm gives better surface area than OD50mm
You will have to use 2 OD50mm blocks for the very front but.
You will need to drop radiator 50mm buy making your own drop brackets.
(easy done)
With a little trimming of the front mud flaps and guard corner you can fit
285 (33") no problem.
Gear stick will have to be reshaped with oxy and mabey floor pan for the 4WD lever if it's not an ADD (pus button 4wd selector)
Will have to get new fuel filler pipe and fast fill fuel fill pipe if you want to do it properly.
Brake lines extend at pig tail no problems.
Loosen off the steering column shaft at the 2 points where the splines are to allow a little movement when lifting.Then re tighten.
Loosen intake pipe from airbox to motor.
move around after lift to find "sweat spot" then retighten.
Best to get a new set of leaves with 2" built into them.
I think OEM and EFS replacement leaves are the go as they both have slipper pads between leaves to keep a supple ride.

This may help you but you have an extra cab so rear tub may require different bolts at the front.Cab bolts should be the same.

I bought a set of EFS raised springs n hi lift shocks today was going to fit them but torsion bar adjusting bolts r seized. Got a spare set from toyota.
I had a 3/4" drive rattel gun on em hopeing to move em or snap em but no luck didnt move ? There a tuff bolt :(. I might try a 1" or 1 1/4" drive gun or do you have any suggestions ? worst case senario ill have to hit em with the gas axe but i dont like that idea ?

Once these bolts are tight/frozen you have bugger all chance of saving them
They are a very fine thread and the thread picks up so easy if there is any dirt on the thread the game is over.
Get onto them with the 3/4 drive breaker bar and hope they snap.
If not it will be hello MR OXY.
Be careful make sure the weight is off the car or there is to much tension on them.You could end up doing yourself some damage.
When replacement bolts go in lube them up real good.
With the springs use rubber bushes not that nylon stuff.
It gives a nicer ride and flex is better.
Check the condition of the factory bush.
If Ok change them out into the new set.
Also see if you can get rubber for the shock ends.
