bit of history first:
Its a 2.8D Hilux - I have checked the fluid and its full, the calipers were reconditioned only 2 months ago and I have new pads..
If I pump the brake pedal more than 4 times the brake light comes on the dash - could this be the vacuum pump or Master Cylinder?

Its probably your low vaccum warning, using the same light for several circuits

Yeah, i know some other diesels use the brake warning light as a low vacum indication light too, might be so with toyota. Try disconnecting the vacum sensor on the booster and see if the light comes on when you pump the pedal??

The only wires i can see going into the booster are the two at the bottom that I thought were for low fluid level warning. what should I be looking for to find the vacuum sensor

The vacuum switch is in the small black tank near the booster. Just follow the hose back from the booster.

Ok finally got around to it and disconnected the two wires going into the small black tank near the booster. The light no longer comes on.
so whats that mean ? Is it just the sensor that screws into the black canistor i need to source or is there more to it?
By the way the brakes work fine so i dont think i have a vaccuum problem

you are using up the vacuum quicker than the pump can replace it.
If it is worse than standard, check for perished hoses, worn pump etc
