I'm thinking about getting a bullbar for mine and want opinions on what I should get.
Been thinking either custom tube winchbar or custom alloy or steel winchbar.
Someone told me to go alloy cause it wont knock the truck around and a steel bar will

My first impulsw was to say steel, but unless your doing alot of country driving and have a chance of hitting roos etc you dont really need it. My alloy has held up pretty well on rocks, (and the odd tree
), and I image alloy would be much lighter (duh), dunno how steel could 'knock the truck around'
Steel would be better in an acco but you already know that.

Definitely alloy. The extra weight of steel will make you hate it. And alloy doesn't rust.
I think also that with the Harold Srubbies of the world making more and more noise, you'll eventually have major issues with most bars, but more so steel.
The idea of a bar is to take the impact of a collision with an animal and protect the rest of your vehicle. IMHO alloy is best for this in most instances. A big "strong" steel bar may well suffer less in an impact, but transfer the damage further back into your vehicle...ie. bent chassis, etc.

i have a steel and its fine. Even with a winch the extra weight is not that noticable.
If you make a nice steel tube FAT type bar its not that heavy anyway.

I've got modified LandRover winch bar, it's not that heavy, i'd say about 30kg all up. while my ugly aluminium profile was about 15 kg. i do lot of country driving and there's no knocking around. steel one is better in my case due to bush driving, the steel bullbar do not have the same strenght as the chassis as the chassis is HSS. (High Strenght Steel) The bullbar usually mad of mild steel. alloy bend easier than steel.
