Hi, on my chassis plate i have the following digits. first model
LJ70RV-MEXW and under that i have these
183 FG10 G145 R150 F
the
LJ70 is obvously the model but what is the
RV-MEXW and as for the others i am guessing that the
183 is the interior trim code and the
G145 is the axle code, can any one confirm this and tell me what the rest is all about ????? thanks

L - L series engine (lighty duty 4 cylinder OHC diesel)
J - Landcruiser Platform
70 - 70 series family Landcruiser
R - Right Hand Drive
V - Hard Top (I think)
MEXW and 183 not sure on but could be to do with manufacture date, place of manufacture, paint and interior trim
183 FG10 G145 R150 F
G145 is the axle code - your rear differential has an 8" carrier, the ratio is 4.875:1, and it is limited slip with 4 spider gears.
R150F is the gearbox gode - it is a medium duty five speed gearbox similar to R151F but with taller 1 and 2 ratios.
hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for all the help, changing the subject slightly to the rtear diff. how often do the clutch plates have to be changed? reason i ask is with a limited diff with both whhell off the ground when you spin one wheel the other should turn in the same direction, mine dont was woundering as its covered just over 100,000 miles if the plates need replacement?

Clutch plated should be changed between every 20000km to 40000km. You can tighten them up, but sounds like yours are worn already.

Dumbdunce hits it on the head. The "V" designation in LJ70RV refers to hardtop, whether it is the FRP top or the steel top.
The "MEXW" means:
M - 5 speed manual gearbox
EX - VX luxury package
W - West European (ex-NATO) market
183- Dark Grey Metallic exterior colour
FG10 - interior trim (colour, cloth trim, etc.)

Dumbdunce are you sure that is the right ratio? I didn't think cruisers came out with a 4.875:1? or do you mean 3.875:1

yep. very sure. it's a bundera so not a 'real' cruiser - the diffs are 8" similar to hilux.

what's the bet you can only buy the hemisphere as a unit and can't buy the clutch plates separately? and even if you can, after you recover from the price sticker shock, saunter over to your local ARB dealer and price up an air locker and compressor. With the favourable exchange rate $A/GBP you might get a pleasant surprise!
