I was down at Coolangatta/Kingscliff for a few days at easter. Spotted a red/orangy colourd real nice lookin CJ... 7 maybe?

Anyway, driving around with no doors. Looked like the ultimate summer rig.

I didnt think it was legal to drive without doors? I also see alot of the CJ's round on the net without doors. Is this because they came factory with/without doors?

Anyway, i thought it would be cop bait driving round like that... Looked sweet as tho!

All Legal as long as the vehicle is pre side impact ADR's (97 I believe) and the doors are not permantly attached the doors on a CJ are simply 2 pins that drop into 2 holes on the windscreen hinge

My doors are a metal tube frame and cloth so really is no difference from a protection point of view than no doors

running no doors is a great fun but if your off road I prefer at least some sort of door to remove the temptation of sticking legs and arms out when things are going bad

wow i want a CJ!

Does this apply to any vehicle pre 1997 with removable doors?

What about TJ's etc? removable?

What if you put removable pins (drop on/lift off) on a door? (suzuki etc?)

In the ACT, if your TJ is plated pre July(I think) 97 then you can legally run doorless. Of course you also need mirror relocation brackets.

In VIC, you used to be able to run doorless on any year TJ according to their RTA site - not sure if this is still true.

the pre july '97 rule applys in QLD as well, ive been running no doors on and off for the past 8 years now with no problems, even got pulled over at double island on the weekend while running no doors and all the officer wanted to do was tell my mate in the passenger seat to put his seat beat on.

I've been pulled over onroad by cops with no doors or mirrors, it was an RBT and the 20 or so coppers standing around said "nice jeep" and sent me on my way :D

I've got a set of fabric soft doors i use to drive up to the beach with then take them off once up there.

cheers

Jezz I'd slap any mate that tried to ride in my jeep without a seatbelt......Since it's the driver that copes the fine & the double demerit points (holiday season).

I've run my suzuki sierra many times without doors and haven't had any trouble with the cops. Got pulled over once because I'd lost power to all the rear lights (at night) and I fixed them then and there. They asked where my doors were and I said they were at home, they didn't question me anymore then that :) I just they were removeable.

I haven't had any extar attention from cops without the doors on it, although I do prefer to run my half doors most of the time for safety.

Mark.

I like no doors, but I like the looks of safari doors, the tube ones with no covering. they even look sweeter :P

in my Sierra I have gone no doors many times. they only thing you have to remember is if the doors had side mirrors you have to have side mirrors mounted onto the vehicle then. I just have some side mirrors with a bracket that bolts to the exo cage so nice and legal.

i'v run my tj with out doors all the time. have had cops pars me and pull up beside me at the lights a many times. they look, but thats it.

the only thing is when wheeling and getting some mice angles. you find yourself putting a leg or arm out the door. i know that sounds dum but its hard to stop yourself from doing it. like the same reaction when you fall, you put your hand out to stop. but driving around with no roof and doors is great and the girls love it too.
