hi all
i have a question about wiring my uhf antena(mods feel free to move to auto elec if its more suited)

would i wire the centre "core"part of the wire to the antenna and the braided outer part earth it out or is there another way

also
i wanted a spring base for my antenna and i had a spring base and other bits(the section labled with a ?) from one of those little solid wire ones with the coil about half way

all i did was take the little wire one off and put my bigger antenna on (the only place i could thread it on also circled in red)
have i lost you yet????

is there a problem running it this way ???
i will post a pic to clarify

Can't see your pic so can't answer your spring question, but you're right - the core goes to the antenna element, and the braid goes to earth. That's the only way to do it.

It should come apart at the spring to s/s shaft junction. There should be an insulated point on the bottom of the s/steel part (coil normally covers it) that the center conductor should connect to, and the outer braid should connect to the coil spring near the junction as well. The coax is fed down through the middle of the spring and through the base of the spring, which screws down to your mouning surface with the coax coming out the bottom of the mount.

It is what they call a "ground plane independant" antenna, meaning you don't need an expanse of metal around the base of it for it to work properly.

Take it to a communications/radio shop and get them to attatch the coax, as if you get it wrong you can say goodnight to whatever you are going to plug it into.... $30 antenna vs $300 radio...it's woth the 10 or so buck you might get charged.
