Rear guard trim and 1/4 chop

HI all,
I've read lots and lots of posts on 1/4 chops and they are very helpful, and I'll use that info to chop the 1/4's. But I want to also cut a bit out of my rear guards as I've fitted Cheezy's tuff as nails lower arms which are a little longer to compensate for the lift and at full artic the swampers are rubbing on the rear guards and I want to go to bigger tryes eventually, enough room for 36's anyway. Now what I want to know is, is this something I should get a panel beater to do, or can I have a stab at it with the 4" grinder without stuffing it up too badly? I've seen some good pics which give me a good idea of the line I want to take, but I also want to keep a lip underneath so I can screw the flexi flares into it which I'm currently running. So to make the lip is it just a case of leaving enough extra when doing the chop and then tapping the lip over or is there some pano tool which makes this easier etc.
Thanks for any help, much appreciated people!
