Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All.

This is probably a stupid question, but here goes...

My vitara is a little lively in the wet - I have very little traction in the back which can be fun, can also be a bit scary at times. (Might it be a case of having cheap A$$ tires?)

Am I likely to end up killing my gearbox/transfer case if I drive around in 4H in the wet?

I remember hearing something about gerabox wind up on sealed roads... Hmm..

As long as the wheels can slip you should be ok, but it is still not recommended on bitumen, especially if you suddenly get lots of traction.

Honestly, dont do it mate, even though it migh be low traction and all, you will still be putting stress on the drive train that it doesn't need. You can wind up a drive train to the point that you need to reverse a bit to get it out of 4wd just on a hard gravel track. And it will also increase your fuel consumption too. Keep it in 2wd till ya go wheeling. Best solution would be to get some descent tyres if yours are rooted, or drive accordingly.

I have not been in 4wd since the start of the drought but I lock in the hubs and drive around for a day too keep the seals lubricated and to stop front uni and driveshaft from getting stiff and dry.

You can just engage the hubs and drive around still in 2wd to keep the front end lubed.
