i asked this before, but got no answer. tried google, just got pages & pages of crap.

can anyone tell me if td42's have oil skirt cooling. curious to know if theres any ACTUAL difference between factory turbo and factory non turbo motors. my gut feeling is the factory turbo motor may have a few little fancy bits the non turbo doesnt have.

this may have an impact on a future purchase, will be looking for 4.2 GU in the future, at this stage leaning towards a factory turbo.

sw1,

From what i understand the TD42T engines have bigger oil squirters for better piston cooling- and was also told the other day that the TD42T engine have a larger volume oil pump.

The later model engines also have bigger gudgen pins.

I hope this helps a bit

:D Yes non turbo td42 have got piston cooling. But it would be a good idea to check if there all in place, if your going to turbo it. I have scene two engine were the little squirters have come out of there place. Luckly I found this problem before pumping 20pounds into her. As danel said the little ends are bigger. Not sure about the oil pump.

marko - how hard is it to check if squirters are in position? or any idea how long would it take a competent mechanic to do it? do you have to pull em apart?
for a 1990 td42

TD42 has oil jets at the bottom of each of the bores that spray oil into the underside of the pistons. They are fed via an oil galley that runs internally inside the block. Removing the sump is the only way to check them/see if they are in position
