ok i have just found and purchased a td5 130 extra cab from in nsw, ex energex, the owner was using it as tourer and in forms me from it history it has a factory strengthend and laminated rear axle housing with heavy duty axles + a heavy duty gearbox. he tells me that this was one of 16 that came built as an extra cab from england ( not converted hear ) for energex.

Did LR have options of heavy duty axles, trusse and a heavy duty gearbox????

any way apart from that it looks like a top truck with all the bells and whistle,

do the td5 engines have a timing belt or chain?

is there any things( problem wise ) to look for on a td5 with 140K on the clock...

i fly down tommorow to pay and drive it home. have been looking for a good one of these for ages now, starting to get very very rare.

WELL DONE!!!

Fantastic truck, when do we get pics????

Timing chain, no belt, Bulletproof engine as long as coolant is good and oil changed regularly. They HAVE to have 5w30-40-50 weight synthetic engine oil, every 10,000km with filters, as the only weak point seems to be the cam and followers loosing the hardface prematurely. Onl;y seemed to be early ones though, up to end of 2000 I think.

You'll probably have to put Maxi axles and flanges bla bla bla, as you well know about the wear probs...

Any more available???

Cheers justin, yep took me ages to find it and only chanced on it yesterday by accident ,yesterday was the first day it was advertised, talked to the guy straight away who seems genuine and said ill fly down tommorow with the money and if all is good ill be driving it home. these trucks are just getting so rare now. my brother found one a bout 2 yrs ago ( a 300tdi ) and ive been drooling over it ever since had the chance to buy one about 1 y ago but i said i would think about it and it sold no questions asked about 2 hr later sight unseen to a bloke out west.

has warn winch, arb bar, spoties on bar and roof, snorkle, uhf with two aerials ( long and short whips ), twin water tanks that tot 175L, twin longrange fuel tanks, awesome canopy on the back made out of solid heavy gauge alloy with side wing door with gas struts etc, dual batteries, racks on top of canopy are modified aircraft cargo tie down racks ( owner is a aircraft engineer ) light and power outlets in the canopy for fridge etc,

heaps more stuff like dual tyre carriers on the rear, sliding draws, heaps of spares, two new spares, tyres are new michelen X's etc.

everything i needed... very very happy :D :D

was just interested in the heavy duty gearbox and things he was talking about., as i didnt know land rover did this?

as for the heavy duty stuff anything is posible from LR...

if it was built by LRSV (special vehicles) they may have used some of the military gear as i know these run p38 diffs not sals... and laminating a sals wouldn't be that easy with the big cast center section.

having seen some pics of the wolf's rear diffs they are trussed etc...

good luck

tuff110 i have one of the extelstra td5 130 excab
has the braced axel not salsb. dont know about the gear box
have heard or seen anything different. canopy is great for
work & camping. had mine chipped goes alot better, no v8 though!
heaps of extras on these trucks cost abit to set up...
got mine with 109000ks for 20000 from the auctions, was a
bit of a gamble but its been good, just the usual landy stuff..
hope it all goes well for you, good luck
