Jimny Info Required

What is available suspension wise for the jimny? Or better still, what components are people using and why?

Plans are for daily driver and weekend offroader. Current plans are 4-6" lift, dual arb's, neat bar work, gearing of some sort and 31's. As its going to be my partners daily driver, it needs to handle quite well on road.

Also what gearing is available?

Thanks

do a bit of a search under Squik or Moomand for starters both have heavily modified Jimnys.

Next thing are you sure you will be able to do some of these mods in QLD. Large lifts and tyre increases seem to be a real problemin QLD and if youu are planning onthis to be your wifes Daily Driver I'd reckon legality might be a good thing. best to check with the local QLD DOt andd find out what you cann and can't do before you start doing it

grantw,

there are heaps of different suppliers of jimny suspention.

i have used toughdog springs, 100mm front & 80mm rear, this is because i've got an ARB bar and winch. the car sits level.

i used rancho shocks, of my choosing. so that i get the desired travel.

PM me for more details

Mitch

To stop it being a dog on the road, suggest:

4" suspension lift (Ranchos) - make sure you offset the castor bushes, panhard rod is mandatory on this, if you run 31's, go with a series 1 Rockhopper or get Trail Jimny Gears (these just drop into the standard transfer case - otherwise you will need to fit a Sierra case and this is costly with lots of stuffing around)
Don't go with a series 3 if you are running anything under 32's, you will run 5000rpm at 100kph, not much fun.

This setup will go well offroad, but the missus won't notice too much.

If you haven't bought a Jimny yet, I know of another one going cheap that it already set up exactly as you need it - PM me.

if you plan on keeping it legal in QLD you cant go more than 2" total lift and presuming jimnys have the same size tyres in stock form as sierras did then you cant legally go more than 27's. It sux i know.

Thanks people.

The DOT and I have had many altercations over the years with previous vehicles. I have an understanding of what is "legal".....

To be honest it does not state the legal height increase anywhere in the mods booklet. After doing a bit more research i think it MAY be legal to do 2" spring and 2" body as spartacus said BUT i cant find anyone who can give me a direct answer as i dont no anyone who has tried to get a body lift passed through QT inspection (how it must be done) as they dont want to risk getting defected. anyone want to sacrifice their car and rego for experimental purposes?? :D
