firstly, welcome :)

second, io is not a dirty word

I was reading somewhere about mods??? see if I can find the link. From what I remember reading about them when they were being sold they are a capable 4by at least on par with a vitara off road.

I quite like them, just a bit small for my needs.

Yep, they sound like they're OK for their size. There was a little talk of aftermarket springs on here, but that's all I recall.

I had one as a loan car once - interior was a little "unfinished" and the engine wasn't particularly inspiring, but it's a 4by, not a sports car.

It did strike me that the engine bay had plenty of room for a turbo.

I'd like to see what somebody could do with one - feeling game?

We had one for a few years, my girlfriend loved it. It was a shorty two door. It had basically no mods except a bigger battery and a UHF. We took it from Melbourne to QLD and Fraser island a few years ago and up and down the beaches. It cost us next to nothing to drive up and back. It was an honest little car and we only sold it when I moved to Corryong and needed something for long distance high speed driving on a weekly basis which we bought a new commo wagon. We also had a fairly modded up Mav wagon that got most of serious offroad work but the iO was capable and had a lot of wheel travel for its short wheel base. Id buy another one if one come up cheap enough since we are moving back to Melbourne soon.

There was a guy on the overlander forum – aloha – who had one for a while, modded it up (small lift I think), BFGs, a few other bits and pieces and seemed to give it a good work out. Surprisingly capable but from memory a few dings on the underside. He now has a defender and might reside in the rover section of this forum.

I would possibly consider one, although are too expensive for what they are (and i like my old wagon!)

Had one tag along on a trip to Newnes a couple of years ago. I was surprised at what it could do. It was stock as a rock, and the only place it had any dramas was a bit of bottoming out on the Spanish Steps. Looked like a bit of lift and decent tyres could make a decent little truck. Reminded more of the earlier Vitaras.

G'Day All,
Thanks for feed back.

I could send pics if you like ....but its stock exept for an alloy TJM Bullbar and Hella Driving Lights.....+ Im not sure whjere to send them as Im new.

A bit more info; I have a 97 Disco TDi 300 ( no oil leaks  & yes there is Oil in her ! :finger: ) and its the best car Ive ever owned !

We have joined our local 4wd club and we are both really getting hooked.....so Marie my wife said she wouldent mind her own 4x4....so I went to work find her one !

We didnt want a mid to full size 4x4 as already have the Disco....so a small 4wd would suit us well.....oh by the way Marie needs a 4wd for her work ie driving around a mine site. ;)

We looked at Rav 4, CRV etc and then we found an Pajero io....to be honest I didnt know they were even made ....took it for a drive and is much better to drive than the others and its got a centre diff which is easy to use, and makes the io much more verstile ie rear wheel drive (2H), All wheel drive (4H), 4wd (4H) with centre diff locked and 4WD (4L) centre diff locked.

So bottom line is we really liked it....so we got it ! It also tows the camper very well too. It wouldent suit everybody .....but it does us very well.

Sorry for long post
