As above I looking at putting a 302 Windsor from a 1982 Fairmont (on lpg) into a swb mk patrol that was a l28 four speed. I will still be using the four speed for now. Any advise as to adapters and expertise would be appreciated

Personally I'd try and see if the 302 gearbox fits and use the MQ divorced tcase. It'll probably work out cheaper and easier if you can. Adapators cost a lot of money and there's lots of little issues with most of them.

Why does the XE have a windsor in it?
It should be a cleveland if its a factory engine. Clevelands are bigger and might make the conversion more difficult.

the only prob with thew divorced trans is you may not hav the space in a swb as i hav found the area aint too big im thinkin of using a commo v6 or a v8 but using the same box as the mk as i hav heard they will handle the power but thats only wat i hav read no proof or experience

Geoff Dellow does a kit for a 351 or 301 into an MQ/MK.
However I noticed there's one on ebay at the moment, not for a ford motor but for a holden one. It includes the adaptor bellhousing AND the gearbox. Do a search, it was cheap, might be worth a look instead unless you already actually have the ford motor.
Edit: here it is, I had it in my "My Ebay" watch list:

KR160 is an MQ four-speed isn't it?
