The T valve is a hydrastat i believe, you only need this if the tanks will empty together otherwise just wire in another switch to flick from tank to tank via the lockoff's on each tank.

i was thinking of running the tanks seperatly as in run the tank to empty then switch to the other

yep thats it hydrostat valve legally these must be fitted to a twin tank system i beleive
the lockoffs only stop flow 1 way so once the first is empty and you flick over to the second tank the pressure will equalise in teh first empty one and you will have 2 1/2 full tanks
used to happen in my 40 cause i didnt run a valve

just had a thought, why can't you run a hydrostatic valve so that it is done legally, but then you hook up a switch that operates the shutoff valves at the tanks, so you can switch from one to the other? The valves would still be hooked to ignition, so they would still shut off when ignition is off.

no engineers report is needed, talk to an installer about how you would do it and then mount the tank yourself - and setup the external vent.
You will need the hydrastat valve (around $90 last time I priced one)
to stop the tanks filling each other as loanrangie described.
You can't really run the separately because there is only one input in the converter and you will need several solinoids @ around $45 each to make it work - easier to buy the valve.
Find an installer who will let you do the grunt work and finish the job and sign it off - all easily done - most are happy because they don't have to crawl under the car etc.
The difference between the tank in and out of the car is bugger all - follow the regualtions and it will be perfectly safe

Correcto, this is how its done, i almost bought a disco which was switched tank to tank ( stupid for only 35 ltrs each). The hydrastat is a T so both tanks are plumbed to it with one outlet to the converter and the lockoff's stopping flow of either tank whichever is selected. Looking at a lockoff, i doubt they could flow backward maybe the vacumm type could.
