60 prices?

I'm thinking of buying a mates 60 series. Not sure which model it is exactly but I think it's a pretty early model, and petrol.

The motor has been completely rebuilt, has a rebuilt 'fairly'? overdrive, air lockers front and rear, ARB high mount bar (no winch, have one anyway), long range fuel tanks, extractors and exhaust, rebuilt carby with oversized jets, resprayed about a year ago, 6 off 33" BFG muds. Thats about all I can think off.

He wants $7,000.00.

Is this a fair price?
What do I need to look out for? Common problems?
Have been a Nissan man and dont know much about the Toyos, so any info will be much appreciated.
John.

Hi Johnno

The 60's were almost unbreakable (although many have tried and succeeded) but their main problem was rust. Kills them everytime. Mainly in the roof and doors but can appear anywhere.

As to the value, hard to say. It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Personally I think $7g's is far too much for a petrol 60 however I haven't seen the car and it does sound like it is in good nick and has many accessories although some would argue that accessories don't add much to the resal of a vehicle.

Anyway, I am sure there are plenty of other opinions out there but that is just my 5 cents worth (had to round up :D )

Just as an aside, a mates brother just picked up an 86 petrol 60 series Sahara, on gas, absolutely mint condition, been a road car all it's life (Aust delivered), some accessories (bullbar, towbar, draw set) but no lockers ... Qld rego and paid only $3k for it. Probably a bargain but with fuel prices these days people seem keen to unload them (even though we alll need to accept the fuel prices they just seem to hit the large 4wd used car market).

Cheers

7k does seem allot for a pertrol (non gas one) I saw two petrols 60's for under 5k on the way back from Lithgow other day and one was on gas, both "looked" in good nick.

I'd say hes outlayed 3-4k on mods and is trying to reclaim some of it
